    Updating AHC springs

King Springs KTRS-79 are the most commonly recommended upgrade springs for AHC equipped 100's. I bought mine from Sparesbox in Oz. Delivery was fairly fast.

Off road ones don't count, unless you started on the road lol. The one just after your respray, the one where you ended up stuck on top of a bollard and I might have this wrong but did you not rear end Shayne on the way to Clives? Edit - Sorry, Shayne rear ended you. My mistake.

I'm just trying to be a voice of reason. I've lost count of the number of crashes you have had in the past few years. Your luck is not going to last for ever and sooner or later someone is going to get hurt.

Sorry to hear about your health Chas. I would like you to have a long think about the Jag. You had trouble keeping a 4WD with less than 200hp on the road, what chance do you stand in a 380hp RWD?

Fabricators for a bespoke Rear Swing-away...?

I'm going to approach this from a different angle and am fully prepared to be shot down. I know how strong a 255/100 XZL is, it is far far stronger than something like a BFG MT for example. I don't believe Toby or I ever had a flat when using them, I'm not sure if you have or not Lorin? How...

    Diagnostic port not working

There are odd things going on. On the off chance, I tried it again yesterday and it connected fine. I had been checking the various systems for about 10 minutes and it lost connection and failed to reconnect again. I have ordered a new cable. Interior jet washes were something my green 80...

    Rear springs with AHC

If you are in spec now with short springs and fit longer ones there is a chance your pressure will go below spec. While not bad for the system it will give a less than optimal ride. All the time it is in spec I would not change the springs. Wait until they sag and the pressure goes high.
  12. Ian Rubie

    Rear springs with AHC

If you are within spec then I would leave as is. Being under spec will lead to a lack of damping.

That's great. Still a good idea to check the pressures. Fuses don't normally blow for no reason. Maybe the pump was overworking?
  15. Ian Rubie

    Stalling fixed, next...

Maintenance also includes keeping an eye on the pressures. If they are routinely too high you are putting too much strain on the system which will lead to premature failure.

    Stalling fixed, next...

The main issues with AHC are normally maintenance, or rather lack of maintenance, and the sensors. The sensors can corrode, sometimes salvageable with a strip down and clean, or the actual arms on the sensors can snap. If you can get yours lifting again it would be worth considering flushing...

    Stalling fixed, next...

Once you get it installed it might give you some clues with error codes. If there are no codes the spec for the pressure is Front 6.4 - 7.4 MPa Rear 5.6 - 6.7 MPa I know yours will not lift but at normal height it should be 500mm from front hub centre to wheel arch lip and 520mm at the rear...

Forgot to say, you will need a windows laptop or tablet to run Techstream. I bought a cheap Chinese Windows tablet that I use with it.

It is not OBD2. The port is just above the brake pedal. There are a few readers that work with it but it is generally accepted that Techstream is the one to go for. Available on eBay with a cable.

    Stalling fixed, next...

It appears from what you have written that the AHC was fine immediately after you changed the fuel filter and started playing up a week later. To get a full picture of what AHC is up to you really need Techstream so that you can check the pressures. It could be that the fuel filter change is...

    Diagnostic port not working

Thanks for the idea. The other tool powers up via the connector but does not communicate. The lack of communication is expected though as the tool does not speak "Toyota". Since the tool powers up I'm guessing the supply and earth in the connector are ok, I'll check the other pins. Ian

I cannot get TechStream to connect to my 2004 UK spec HDJ100. I know my TechStream installation and cable are working because I can connect to my Lexus with it. I have been able to connect to the 100 in the past with the same software and hardware that I am currently trying with. I have...

Chas - I've known you more years than I care to remember and quite frankly I'm amazed you are still with us. Your guardian angel deserves a medal. My worry is your angel might take a day off sometime and the result will be an innocent victim who was mowed down by an out of control 80. That...

Adventuring Northern Cyprus to Romania Trip

Not quite lol. The counter argument is, in low speed but high load situations the OEM cooler puts large amounts of heat into the cooling system that it cannot deal with. This leads to the engine overheating as well as the transmission. If the aux cooler is first in line then some of this...

    Soon-to-be 100 Series owner...

Hi Shay, Welcome. As to which model it is very much down to personal preference. For me a 100 beats a 120 \ 150 hands down, other people have completely the opposite opinion. If the fact a 100 is bigger and you don't mind the increased fuel consumption of the 4.2 then I'm sure you will be...

    Advice needed

As has been said, make sure you can get in and out. What sort of age \ budget? Looking at the politest way of saying this, you are on the accident prone side lol. An SL will not be as easy to patch up as an 80. From a mechanical repair point of view an R129 (about 1989 - 2002) is probably...

the much derided internal combustion engine..

I used to be well into radio controlled cars. I had one that had a 3.5cc engine that produced something like 1.5hp at 28,000 rpm. This was 35 years ago. I've had a quick look and the first 3.5cc current engine I saw is 2.61hp at 34,000 rpm with a practical rev range 4,000 to 42,000 rpm.

    Hydraulic Winches

Hi Justin, Sorry I sold that car years ago and the new owner has since broken it for spares. I cannot remember exactly how the crank looked but it was basically a cog attached on the radiator side of the crank pulley. The air con tensioner had its pulley replaced with a cog. The air con...

I would be interested to know why. When Nickie and I were looking for a new Land Cruiser we went the opposite way. We ruled out 120's / 150's, having looked at both, and ended up with a 2004 100.

    AHC versions

Unfortunately it is not unusual for Mr T to not understand AHC. Probably the mechanic who went on the AHC training course in 1998 has left and the new one has no idea about 100's because he has been on the 150 \ 200 training course. He has probably seen the car has something that looks a bit...

    raising the front shocks

It depends if you have AHC or not. If not then cranking the torsion bars should do the trick. If you do then you need to set the height by adjusting the AHC sensors and then crank the torsion bars to get the AHC pressure correct.

I have had a tent try and fold itself up with me inside it during a storm. Not fun when as mentioned the ladder provides the support. From that night onwards I used to bungee cord the ladder down to the tow bar to prevent a reoccurrence.

Don't just dismiss AHC out of hand. A well maintained system will be reliable and the self levelling aspect of it should help when towing. I love the AHC on mine, just wafting around then leave it on comfort setting, playing on a twisty road then firm it up a couple of clicks, need a few...

Come over from the darker side... :)

A thing to look out for on 100's with rear aircon is the pipes going to the rear of the car can corrode and leak. The gas is shared with the front system. The rear pipes can be replaced with flexible ones or, if you don't want rear aircon, the rear section can be bypassed.
