    Rims and tires

Maybe you have the white stock rim (photo attached) [6 x 15] which was fitted after August 80, but the centre recess is not the same and that recess looks too small for the hub cap version with the tabs removed. (shown below) I believe that prior to that date they fitted split rims 6 or 5.5...

    Tire sizes, lift

Aah, the rear leaf springs: I acquired a set of rear leaf springs that had more tension than my originals but with the modified (for winch racing) and substantial spring mounts on the rear they were fractionally too short which moved the axle forward - just didn't look right. I spoke with the...

    Tire sizes, lift

Thanks, my truck has 60 series engine and transmission and axles with coil sprung front end with radius arms and no antiroll bars front or rear (more articulation when off roading) so is far from stock. It was an ex-winch racing truck so I have just refined it over the years. The turning circle...

    Hj45 stalling

In the engine bay there should be a short (8 in) flex fuel pipe between the body/chassis mounted fuel line from the tank and the engine to allow for the engine's movement.

    Tire sizes, lift

I have attached a photo that might help. The red one , Jonnie's, has 33/12.5/15 (could be 35s?) on it and I think he had a 2in lift. The white one has 31/10.5/15 and mine has a 2.5in lift. My body is stock with just the narrow flares to make it legal. I tried his wheels on mine but didn't like...

    Hj45 stalling

Hi Jim, The shot air filter won't help. Change it. Did you change the flexible pipe between the chassis and the engine? As they get old they rot/decay internally thereby reducing the amount of fuel that flows. I had this same problem years ago and replaced that flexible fuel line and all has...

Hi Edgar, I suggest you phone SOR because the catalogue is about regularly sild parts. I have always had better results for odd parts by phoning them. Worth a try. Somewhere I have the info of a US company that does secondhand parts, but I need to have a bit of a search. Rodger

Hi Edgar and welcome. Sounds like you need to find a new solenoid and then you can get your truck back. Worth contacting www.sor.com - Spectre Off Road - they are in LA and specialize in 40s. Let us know hoe you get on. Regards, Rodger

    hand brake problem solved

Over the years my hand brake would quickly vary its settings and I'd end up with the brakes shoes rubbing too much but because it's very gradual it creeps up on you, but we solved the problem yesterday. Firstly the 2H, gearbox, transfer box and axles in my 40 are all from a pre-83 HJ60. The long...

Hi one and all can sum one help is it a big job to put a 80 series engine and gearbox in a hj47 landcruiser wot will I have to have parts for the job

Hi Tony, My initial reaction is remembering the words of my buddy who has done a load of transplants with Toyotas, including mine, who transplanted an 80 series engine & boxes in to a troopy chassis. He said he'd never do it again and from what I can remember it was the incorporation of all...

    1977 FJ40 front grille question

Well, like I said, it is broad brush but the chart states 'production based on frame number' so from 1960 to the end of 1978 is 19 years to produce 298313 FJ40s or 1308 per month. Divide your vin number (last 6) by 1308 and that's the number of months since production started that your truck...

    1977 FJ40 front grille question

In a broad brush look at your VIN number and the production figures, I reckon your truck was built in September 1975. www.megastore4x4.pt do one in fibreglass. Steel will need a bit of searching although I think there is a German company making 40 panels but I'd need to search out their info...

    1977 FJ40 front grille question

And another couple of points: In the photo I attached my bezel is mounted the wrong way up, corrected many years ago! (See Avatar) Secondly your truck may not be a '77 as the DVLA or whatever they are called now, do not have the information pre'77 so assume that all 40s are '77 or later if...

    1977 FJ40 front grille question

Hello and welcome.... The years shown in the CCOT attachment are correct and you do have the wrong bezel. Your later bezel doesn't have the same shaping as your valance. I have attached a photo of my truck so you can see how the correct bezel lines up with valance shape for a pre '79. To me...

    Hello

Hello and welcome... BJ40s are the best. I've had mine for 21 years. Did a lot of bodywork in the early years (on a thread on here) and over the years, and with knowledgeable friends, sorted the few electrical bits and pieces - 24volt and the original wiring loom. As an ex LR and Champ owner...

    Hello from Costa Rica

Hello and welcome... Some years ago there a 40 specialist in Costa Rica, named Pilgrim Restorations or Pilgrim xxxx, (sorry can't remember exact title) but they did full 40 restorations and they also made the body panels/ tubs/etc for Cool Cruisers of Texas CCOT but I haven't seen any of their...

    2H to 12H-T Upgrade

Hi Ben, According to my manuals the engine mounts are in the same place for 2H and 2H-T and your starter motor should fit as the block is the same for both. From the new engine number you should be able to identify the year as there were changes to them in '83. Hopefully your new engine is...

    BJ73 build date question

Try the Toyota Enthusiasts Club as DVLA used to accept originality info from them. uHu's info should be sufficient from ToyoDIY: It has a build month and year/ destined market / model etc.. The only thing that I would question is that it states that it is VM engined (Italian) but then says 3B...

    For Sale Land Cruiser 80

To see Dave2000's 80 up for sale is very saddening for us as Dave has been our off-roading partner for the last eight years. Letter from The Mayor of London. ULEZ.

A friend has just sent me the Top Gear answer to the Ulez problem - classic cars as DDs. And guess what the BJ40 gets in the top 10 although they list it with the 2H-T which as we all know would mean an HJ47 Troopy, but the 2H and 2H-T fits in a 40 series. 12 of the UK’s best classic cars...

Our Andalucia-UK trip is complete - 2332 miles at 28.3mpg and that includes some fairly stiff climbs all on tarmac. Starting from our village we climb 1400 metres (4593 feet), the pass is 2000 metres, and on the return got feed up with the autovia and detoured which started with an 800 metre...

    the straight through crew.

Here in Spain older vehicles are not exempt from the annual test. My 48 year old 40 passed - although he didn't like the self parking on the wipers (maybe I shouldn't have been so eager to push the switch as they do not self park!) and with new rear shoes and wheel cylinders he wanted the...

Has anyone successfully registered a new LC 70 in Spain/EU?

It would have to be a petrol version for Spain and actually the simplest way is to have the vehicle registered in your name in another country for at least six months and then import and register it as a personal import. Obviously it depends on where you are currently living. You indicate USA...
