    17inch wheels

Hello mate, I made a promise to my mrs that i wouldn't touch the LC before i finished renovating a cottage we have near Dunkeld. That's nearly done so i've got one eye on (re)starting the LC, hence why i'm after wheels. Works been a bit of a bind but i'm getting that under control so should be...

I'm looking for some 17" wheels preferably steel. Any ideas? Thanks, G

    Anyone got a new Hilux?

I've got a 3ltr, it's fairly quiet and smooth and has a flat(ish) power curve. The 2.5 is a good motor but a wee bit noiser and has a narrower power band so you have to use the gearbox a lot more.

    Evolution 80...

Aye, it's wrong alright but i can't find any info on it being done before so i lke the idea of giving it a go. Every bugger is running a trayback now! The cab is still up for grabs but Karl has first dibs followed by pugwash. But, since i spoke to both i've looked more closely at it and i might...

    Evolution 80...

Here's the donor Land Rover. I had been looking for something a bit newer, TD5 Defender or later, but this came up for £100. I've gathered most of what i need to make a start so hope to get going over the next few weeks.

    Evolution 80...

This build has changed direction a wee bit over the last few days, having been neglected for a few months. I had considered scrapping the lot but i've got quite attached to it even though it's in bits and is taking up a handy spot on the drive. The cab is coming off and the plan is to graft on...

    Rims

I used them about 3 years ago and have no complaints. Very good service indeed. But, you are left with an LC on blocks for a few days while your exchange wheels are delivered. I think i paid £250 inc postage each way, maybe £200 but i can't remember. If you use a local place i'm sure you could...

    Drawer System

Cheers Steven. I did use spruce ply but i would use marine ply if i made another one. The spruce ply is fine but the edges are prone to delaminating. I knocked the corner of one of the drawes and a couple of the plys peeled off. I glued and clamped the plys back on but i was very surprised how...

    Toyota rear axle

Paul, the axle is a standard rear from a 2003/04 4x4 pickup so yes, it was on leaves. It only had about 50k miles on it what i bought it with a new diff flange seal fitted. I bought it for one of my "projects" but it's been sat in the garden since(maybe 2 years). I think it is missing the brake...

Introducing SmilingHound - 4x4 equipment, stainless parts.

Hi Jim, RED only do PTO clutch housings for Landrover boxes. But, i'll have a look and see what i can source for an LC box. What gearbox are you running and what do you want to do with the winch? There is always the option of an engine mounted pump. Is that of interest to you? G

Introducing SmilingHound - 4x4 equipment, stainless parts.

Hi All, Website updated to include stainless steel Land Rover hinges for those who are interested. This is the kind of thing we can do in small batches so we're not constrained to Land Rover parts. Enquiries for small batches for ....well....whatever really, are welcome. Cheers, G

    Do 35 inch x 12,5 inch x 15 inch fit on an 80?

Are they on rims? If they were 16's i'd be interested. However, that size will fetch ok money 2nd hand on ebay for the LR or hilux boys. G
  27. G

    Drawer System

In all there will be about 3 and a half sheets of 18mm structural ply so not that light. you could use 12mm ply or mdf if weight is an issue but i want to be able to load about half a tonne on top so this neaded to be fairly robust.
  28. G

    Drawer System

Hi, I thought i'd post this up incase any of you were interested. It's not for my LC but for my Hilux. Just need a lid, a lick of paint and some carpet.

Forget the front axle, what about the rear one then?

Not a lot to worry about. The seals are incredibly expensive if you use Toyota parts. I did mine recently (full floater with a locker) and made the mistake of stripping the axle before i had it shot blasted. It took me an age to get all the sand/oil sludge out of the casing. A hot pressure...

Introducing SmilingHound - 4x4 equipment, stainless parts.

Hi Julian, There are 5 winches available. All are all perfectly adequate for the job. I would recommend the Challenger or the Sabre. Both the Challenger and Sabre are single speed winches. The Challenger winch is the entry level winch, (in terms of RED winches), and has been extensively tested...

Introducing SmilingHound - 4x4 equipment, stainless parts.

Hi Julian, The business is up and running but the web site isn't quite there yet. There are several options available but the most important factor is what you intend to use the winch for. If you let me know the laden weight of your vehicle and intended use i'll look at the options and...

    any good these 90 series???

Gav, is yours an auto or manual and what kind of mileage do you get? Also, whats the towing capacity? I need to start thinking about swapping my van for something with 4 seats and no dearer to run. Whatever i get has to be 4x4, auto and do at least 25mpg but the more the better. Cheers G

Which bushes to change and which to leave...

I've just changed the rear radius arm bushes using milners bushes. They looked ok quality and worth the money. One thing i like about them is that once you have changed to polly bushes you'll never need a press to replace them again.

Mm, thats a bugger, i'm not sure what the spare axle was off so i'm not sure if it was manual or auto. I assume you mean that the ratios are different? I noticed the abs/backing plate etc but only when i went to fit the pre 92 axle. I bought thinking it was a straight swap as i needed a new...

Cheers Jon, I think i'll just get new seals as i cant even see any on mine. The bearings are fine, no play at all and they look in really good nick. I can see that the bearings have been replaced recently as they are well packed with grease but theres also loads of oil in there too, and the...

I started putting everything back together today but spent most of my time cleaning and painting owt that isn't getting binned or replaced, however, i'm a wee bit confused. I have a full floater back axle but there doesn't seem to be an outer hub seal to stop the gear oil mixing with the...

Fair do's Paul. A liberal spay of wd40 on everything underneath prior makes cleaning easier but Kirton mud does set like concrete to be honest, and tends to fall off some months later. I just use it as a ploy to pinch English soil and dump it in Scotland.

    rear axle hub rebuild?

I stripped and rebuilt my rear axle over the last couple of weeks, however, i haven't got round to refitting the hubs yet.
