In the winter you can get around much of the regular road network, but some roads become difficult even for 4x4s, due to deep snow. The problem is that many roads are not continuously cleared by snow plows.
However its an exciting place in the winter!
The weather in March can be cold up on the glaciers down to -20 - 25C but its the wind that is the killer. March is good as the days are pretty long and the light is good for photos....and of course its a good time for the Northern lights. :) :)
Just got back from another trip to Iceland...
Just thought you may be interested in a recent trip in Iceland, where we did a lot of snow driving in our Toyota Landcruisers. Ice and "krappi" water under the snow were some of the hazards. However our trip was cut short after my truck blew a hole in one of the pistons, caused by a faulty...
Just returned after crossing Iceland in winter including crossing Europes largest Icecap Vatnajokull. We were a part of 12 driving 4 LC120's with the smallest a 38" tyred car that actually has been to the magnetic north pole with top gear...it was their support vehicle, also we had one 44" and...
We use Eimskip from Fredrikstad to Reykjavik. Two 44" modified trucks in one container....its a tight fit. However simetimes they use a a special container, not sure what its called but basically its just a floor with two fold up ends. Anyway it costs 15,000 Nkr (about 1500 pound) round trip per...
We do not have a ferry connection here in Norway, so we have been shipping the trucks in a container, then flying.
Not sure if that would be an option from the UK

Just a few photos from the trip to see the 2nd eruption at Eyrafallajokull in Iceland. Drove within 1.4 kms from the crater which was somewhat scary! It was shooting blocks of lava and rocks as large as a Toyota 1-1.5kms into the air
We also had to drive through the ash cloud on one trip across...
To experience a volcanic eruption has always been on our wish list for many years and this Easter we got our chance.
We travelled to Iceland on the Wednesday before Easter and rented a cabin in the beautiful Thorsmork valley, close to the eruption site. The next day we were up early and filled...
