    Auto gearbox - checking/changing ATF

Not sure how or why it improves the "feel" of the gear changes but they are noticably smoother and I think the TC is locking up sooner. This is not a significant difference - it just feels smoother.

    Auto gearbox - checking/changing ATF

Hi Graham, I know what your saying and Toyo should know what these 'boxes are capable of. Only checked mine as I found some oily gunge in the radiator expansion tank and feared a leak in the ATF cooler - thankfully not the case. The fluid I drew off was very dark, I thought it was black, but...

    Auto gearbox - checking/changing ATF

At last - sorted  Found the filler plug on the offside rear of the 'box. There is an "extention housing" between the gearbox and transfer box, the plug is halfway up the offside of this. 24mm plug with WS stamped on it! Now I know where it is I don't know how I didn't see it :oops...

    Auto gearbox - checking/changing ATF

Calling into Toyo garage tomorrow, should get it sorted. Obviously not a frequent job. How difficult can it be? We'll see what tomorrow brings.

    Reading lights

Have used a lot of LED's on boats - cheap ones are rubbish. The quality ones have a voltage regulation board and can take stacks of abuse, at a price! Also check the "colour" of the light, some(most) LED's are a harsh blue/white which is hard on the eyes. Softer white lights are available now...

    Viewing a 2004 LC2

I have only seen the commercial version in this trim. They get a rear locker but no ATRAC ( a good thing in my book). The commercial also runs narrower wheels but not sure if this true for the stationwagen. The rims on that car do not look familiar. The black bumpers will probably hide thumps...

    Auto gearbox - checking/changing ATF

To cut a long story very short I wanted to check the level and condition of the ATF in my early 2005 LC4. Without any knowledge of how to do this I poked around looking for a dipstick - there isn't one. There are however two plugs on the bottom of the box, one is marked "check". I unscrewed this...

    Radiator/oil cooler

No more oil has appeared in the expansion bottle after about 80 miles of driving so I don't think there is anything sinister going on. I'm off for a good drive this weekend so will keep a watchful eye...... I called local yota service department today and enquired about changing ATF and drew a...

What to do with my siezed front caliper ????

I tried to pump out one of the pistons with the caliper still on the car using the pads to block the others. I put some serious pressure on the brake pedal with no movement on the piston. Took a 4' pry bar to get it moving. When I eventually got it out there was some deep pitting on the surface...

    Radiator/oil cooler

I didn't expect the fluid to run so freely when I unscrewed the "check" bung. Perhaps the level is checked with the engine running - buggered if I was going under there with the engine running :? I've done a LOT of searching and still not sure how to check the level, never mind changing the...

    Radiator/oil cooler

Had a poke around thismorning and can't pinpoint anything wrong. I removed the oil from the expansion bottle - it looks like grease rather than oil. It may be some sort of protective coating which was on the new engine. There is no measureable loss of coolant from the system and it is...

    Radiator/oil cooler

Toyo pink coolant (£27 for 5 litres  ) There doesn't appear to be any pressurising in cooling system and I cant really tell if there has been much, if any, coolant loss. Lube oil in this motor very clean too - I've been doing 3.5k changes on this new motor. They fitted a short engine...

    Radiator/oil cooler

Engine still under warranty but can't see them covering rad and gearbox at this stage (car 6 years old in Jan) Engine replaced at 64K due to injectors/blocked oil pick-up/knackered crank and no.1 piston. £12.8k at MR. T's expense

    Radiator/oil cooler

The service schedule says "filled for life" and only to check and top-up as required. The oil in the expansion bottle doesn't look like engine lube. There is no sign of water in the lube oil. This is a new engine fitted by Mr.T last November and only done 10k, the car is Jan 2005 and has 75k on...

For people on Orange or Tmobile

  about time - hope the rest follow soon. I do a bit of sailing around the Western Isles and have to take a handful of sim cards to try and keep coverage. On second thoughts, I go there for the peace and tranquility (not to mention a wee dram or two!)

    Radiator/oil cooler

Hi Crispin, not sure about it being sealed, I don't think there is a dipstick - just drain plug and level plug. TBH I know very little about auto boxes in general and even less about this one but I'll have a poke around in the morning. Just hoping there isn't coolant in the box. Got a bad...

    Radiator/oil cooler

Hi Folks, finally got around to registering over here. I was checking a few bits under the bonnet today and discovered some oil in the rad expansion bottle  It's not much oil, but it wasn't there before. I dont think it's engine oil as it is clean and cream in colour but has got me...
