    LC5 Sat Nav Camera connection

may be some useful info here wrt connections, pin no's, etc. Its a different model, year & head unit but some principals may still apply, worth a read. http://www.rav4world.com/forums/98-4-3-interior/105410-display-rear-camera-factory-nav-screen.html

120 spec differences, colour combinations and audio

I bought one for my LC3 (not same as in the link) from China a few years back, on paper it did everything. In reality, it did everything astonishingly badly except for the satnav whose software had no doubt been copied from someone who did put in the work. I was lucky where my unit had a fault...

    LC5 Sat Nav Camera connection

The rear view camera was offered as an option on the Lc5 so in theory anyway it could be a simple enough install. The Toyota camera was possibly £500+ when I checked and thats if it could still be got if even just to look at for comaprison sake. I dont imagine theres any good reason for it to be...

    LC5 Sat Nav Camera connection

Sorry, cant help on this one but I would be interested in hearing how you get on as I know of an Lc5 with the std satnav screen setup which could benefit from a rear camera. Slightly off topic, I installed a camera onto my Lc3 aftermarket headunit, it switches automatically to the camera...

To buy or not to buy? How many KM/MI are too many....

as above, LC3/4/5 is a UK model designation, it will differ dependant on country of sale. The model with air suspension on the rear will probably be the highest spec available ............ Good advice above on the XC90 also, many of the earlier ones have transmission problems which results in no...

Single clunk when reversing off drive way outside house

Ye........ a few pumps of a grease gun into the sliding part of the propshaft usually cures it (assuming that is the problem), does sound like it could be that. While you're(or whoever) is at it grease all the nipples on the two propshafts & universal joints. Once you have a grease gun its less...

    Which bike carrier?

This is the one I have. http://www.pendle-bike.co.uk/shopping/hang-on-tb-rack.php I use it reasonable often on mine or the wifes car, it kicks out enough to clear the spare wheel and it works very well, its simple and effective.

    Seatbelts

Must try that. I think all toyotas are similar, both my wife's ravs and yaris were same. I suppose the idea is that they are comfortable to wear when new but it does get a little annoying that I have to straighten the seatbelt every time I have someone get out of the passanger seat.

    Radio Mutimedia

Ye, sounds very interesting. I tried a scangauge on my 2007 a few years ago and nothing worked despite the actual manufacture date of the LC being in 2007. I bought one of those plugs for my brother a while back but he said it didnt work on his car so I might ask for it back now !!

    Radio Mutimedia

I dont think you will have any luck with the OBD tie-in on a 2005 model. I bought an all singing, all dancing head unit direct from China on ebay a few years back, the price was great !!! The satnav was great but thats where it ended. It technically did everything as advertised but its...

    Injector rattle

........ this is how it was explained to me by local Toyota service manager. The D4D engine suffered from a certain amount of rattle initially. Toyota subsequently changed the software (could be post '07) at some point to reduce the noise. There will be some which still rattle but nothing...

    Locking diffs

Not sure why the brochure says that, I havnt read it myself but I do take your word for it. Tech dept proof reading was on a friday afternoon ???

    Locking diffs

On Lc3 : Rear axle has an open diff with elec actuated lock via rotary switch on dash. (only available in Low range) Centre is a Torsen limited slip diff (60/40) with locking mechanism providing 50/50 split, via lever adjacent to gearstick (manual version). Front diff is open.

    Oil pressure

could still be a dud filter, no fault of the mechanic who fitted it.
  18. C

    Oil pressure

could be the check valve on the oil filter isint seating properly, I've had this with other cars in the past. A new oil filter may fix the oil pressure light delay in going out on cold startup. Local service manager told me in the past he's never seen an oil pump failure or engine damage as a...

    Oil pressure

I'll have to double check but I think mine is 50-60psi on startup (cold idle) and falls to ~20psi after a good run on a warm day. If I am doing heavy towing at speed it'll drop to ~10psi. All figures are for engine at idle. I'll have a look later and see if the above is correct. An oil change...

    Heavy clutch

on mine its intermittant dependant on wettness so its something around the fork & release bearing, its nothing that I'd be bothered doing anything with until I need to replace the clutch and that'll probably be a while yet.
  22. C

    Heavy clutch

the clutch on mine gets heavy when very dry, strangely when it gets a bit wet (large puddle, stream, etc) it lightens up lots. Its hydraulic, so no cables, levers, etc. Theres a pivot on the pedal but thats fine. I havnt really checked at the box, whatever is causing the change is there. I did...

    44mpg from a 120?

If I get to see 30mpg on normal driving I'm doing well ...... HOWEVER ....... years ago I had a pajero (shogun) with the 2.5 TD engine and was very under geared (80mph = 4,000rpm). I got around 25 - 27mpg out of it usually. I did a journey of ~150 miles one time where there was a...

    Fuel consumption

on a return trip to the UK driving manily on motorway I averaged 30mpg for the entire journey. While on the motorways I tried to keep her at 80mph as much as possible but obviously there were smaller amounts of driving on other roads at lower speeds too but in fairness they were minimal. Tyre...

    Rev limiter

Not sure what way the auto box is controlled on the 120 but it might be an easier option to figure out an over-ride to get it to hold a gear rather than down change automatically. Dont think any of this will be easy as you are probably trying to reinvent the wheel. as in, no one has probably...

Car Stereo DVD Player With GPS

I bought a cheap chinese unit initially on ebay. the sat nav worked great but after that it was utter utter rubbish. the worst thing being it took about 3 mins each time I selected the ipod mode and then had no memory of where it left off if I switched to another function or turned it off...

    Which bike carrier?

I have one that works well enough for 3 bikes, have put 4 on at times. its normally a tow ball mounted socket with two liftout bars that rise, kick out to miss the spare wheel and then a horizontal bar running back off each to mount the bikes. Its very simple but works fine, I've driven Dublin...

    Fuel consumption

am averaging at about 27mpg on mixed runs, bit of motorway, bit of main & back road, some very short journeys. Tipped just over 30mpg twice on longer runs into the UK, mainly motorways (75-90mph) with main roads in between. That was running fully loaded with about 35psi, a roofbox and 3 bikes...

    120 D4D injector recall

Just for information - Yesterday I got a letter from the dealer I bought my Lc from new in 2007 to promote their service dept but to also say that there is a service recall outstanding on my lc. I rang to enquire about the recall, turns out its the injector seals and sump check. I explained that...

    Fuel consumption

not a stupid question. the book states a recommended pressure which has to take varying temperatures, road conditions, driving styles, load, tyre construction, wear rate, comfort, etc into account. So the pressure they recommend is a one size fits all, which by its nature will suit most people...

    Tyres

When you do go to change, you should decide what You want from a tyre before deciding what tyre you buy. One tyre cannot be all things to all people. Thats why there are multiple thread patterns, compounds, ratings, etc. The tyre that works great in the mud won't necessarily stop on a wet Tarmac...

Taking the seats out of a 120

    oil pressure gauge

Hi Airhoguk, I had a look around at the engine yesterday. The existing oil pressure switch seems to be just behind the oil filter, there also seems to be a blank fairly close but its very close to the bulkhead and I could only just feel it, not possible to see without a snake camera. I went to...

    oil pressure gauge

Its a manual Lc3, so no heated seats, CDL is activated with transfer box lever to the left of the gear lever, RDL is on dash in front of left knee. oil pressure gauge

Hi Gary, I plan to fit a volt meter beside it and then still have access to the 12v outlet (not that it cant be relocated easily). I reckon they should fit well there without having to modify anything, I just make up a snug little holder and silicone (or whatever) it in, looks neat and subtle...

    oil pressure gauge

Hi, I'm looking to fit an oil pressure gauge. Nothing to do with the whole copper/aluminium washer thing really, I just plan on keeping this thing for as long as it lives and would like to fit the pressure gauge. So a few questions : Has anyone done it ? does anyone know the best place to...

    New Tyres

I'll probably be shot down all sorts of ways for this but here goes. I recently bought 4 new Dunlops (as OEM spec) for mine. Most of my driving is on tarmac and I like to be able to stop on a wet off cambered road mid corner. The big tough blocks of rubber on the GG or BFG just dont perform as...
