    Suspension work

Those ball joints have to be torqued pretty high onto the hub carrier. On after market joints (and you can’t buy Toyota balls, just the whole arm) I’ve often ended with the castle nut on the limit of where the hole is for the pin. Personally I doubt that did for the drop link. The OEM links...

Toyota don't give a replacemet interval. I suspect it is driving and fuel quality related. If you look at this post the 5th picture is live data from Techstream. What are the "new" model cruiser chassis codes, forums section here, etc..

I use my Jimny far more than my LC. Better offroad because its wet where I live and Jimnys don't sink (or slew) as easily. Better in town because there are twice as many places to park, and on the lanes I don't have to wait for LC width gaps to open up with oncoming trafic. LC is for towing and...

Yep. Inside chassis and sills with Dinitrol cavity wax. Didnt do the doors on the basis my 19 year old 120 is well dissolved everywhere, but untreated doors are spotless.

What are the "new" model cruiser chassis codes, forums section here, etc..

The 150 is up to 2023, when we get the new one it'll be a 250. In the UK we got the new 1GD-FTV engine (2755cc) to replace the 1KD-FTV (2982cc) around mid 2017, although that engine was around elsewhere since 2015. The Hi-Lux 2393cc engine is a 2GD-FTV, which is just a smaller version of the...

    Insurance

I think most people's premiums went up this year due to inflation, and some of the other points you mentioned around parts availability. How much was that, and how much is anything to do with getting older is probably not possible for any of us to say. Until a couple of years ago I was working...

    Insurance

Over 70s have more expensive claims than 50-70s. You're not paying for other ages. Your paying for the history of people your age. Driving history helps, but insurance companies can see 70+ in general cost them more so they are going to factor that in to quote generation.

    Seen some snow today.....

Would much rather be in my Jimny than the 120 or 150 in snow / ice. Just feels like less of a lump to lose control of, and less of a lump to drag up anywhere. That said, I wouldn't want to go as far as a 50 mile round trip in it :-)

    SUBFRAME REPLACEMENT?

Those advisories are just either the top or bottom wishbones are a bit old on both sides. Old, but right now nothing wrong with them. Top one takes less than an hour to change and costs under £100. Bottom ones are closer to £200, plus budget for new mounting bolts because the old ones seize...

    SUBFRAME REPLACEMENT?

The chassis (because there isn't a subframe on a 120 - although there is a bolt in cross member to hold the gearbox in) is cracked somewhere near the front of the car where something mounts to it. So that could be the engine, or the body, or the front wishbones, or the front anti rollbar...

    120/150

Water shouldnt be too bad because it would run out of the drain holes. I think it’s more like mud which then holds the moisture for much longer.

    120/150

I think it's hard to tell because age definitely is a factor, and all the 120s are older than the 150s. I would say my 2022 150 looks very similar underneath to my 2005 120 - in design, not rust! The obvious difference is that my 150 came with sturdy plastic plugs in all the big holes in the...

    Rear axle stabilizer bracket rust

I don't think you can buy them. I made one and I am definitely no fabricator. It's just a U channel with a couple of holes drilled in it. I welded a cap across the open side opposite where the rod comes in for rigidity. I ended up replacing the axle case the following year because the (plated)...

    Piston failure

If you're buying a 150 for £15K it's going to be an early one, almost certainly with the 1KD-FTV engine that the 120 has. Like any other common rail diesel the injectors wear out, spray too much fuel and things get hot, and maybe pistons crack. Injectors should have around 100K mile life. I...

It means they are saying anything at all that their focus groups think might leave them with more than 100 MPs in the next parliament even if this directly contravenes their own promises from the last 4 years. See also ULEZ and 20mph speed limits.

I had one strap broken. Don't know how long it was like that for. Given they are relatively easy to buy outside Toyota I assume it must be relatively common on older cars. I've done everything on that MOT failure list on mine, some of them more than once :-)

    Body welding

Don't know the answer to your welding question (although I'm 99% sure the body is just mild steel everywhere) but this is a really common failure. I noticed that you can now buy (and I'm sure easily make) a strengthening bar designed to stop this happening again after you have repaired it...

    Invincible - worth it?

Too spec was about 60k and Active was about 45k when you could still buy 150s. So 15k difference and I’d expect that to decay with age.
  41. R

    Invincible - worth it?

2018 cars had heavily loaded first year tax. Then anything over £40K also got loaded for the next 5 years. But after that it’s a flat “low” rate. 2018 cars no matter the size and price are now getting that low rate tax. 2017 (or maybe 2016?) will be on the old emissions based VED.

No New Land Cruisers in the UK

It's the same engine I have in my 2022 model. I agree, longevity is a concern. It is noticeably much better towing a decent lump than my 2005 120 which you are very aware is lugging a cattle trailer up the mountain roads round here. I do wonder what they have done to up the tow capacity by 500kg.

Has anyone seen any figures on how many cars are likely to be affected? I think it's roughly diesels older than 10 years and petrol older than 19? Suspect a Land Cruiser forum doesn't give a very representative sample of anecdotes. EDIT. OK, I googled. 700,000; a lot more than I expected.
