    Which tyre

I used to love BFG then Grabber was #1 for years....then Cooper STT 35s which I love became top-o-the-line. Bought them five years ago, not sure which are the best ones now. Tires going up in price so probably a good time to buy now. I can get BFG 35s 15" for £240 and Cooper for £280 larger...

Sudden release of AC Gas in LC 80 (4.5l)

Hi Jarek I don't find out how to send PM so I ask here - is there a land cruiser community in Oman? I am headed there for new years and would like to travel around a bit. Cheers

Comment by 'priffe' in media '77 HJ45 Troop Carrier Arkana'

Interesting. So these were in production for several years? Mine is a HJ47 from 1981

    I took a risk.....Considering !!

White smoke on start is usually turbo failure. There's no seal or gasket - needs a new turbo, or at least a new rotor

    Spare wheel location

The LC 80 is a streamlined car; the LR is not. Would look hideous with the wheel on the bonnet. + it was not designed for it + fuel consumption, noice + insurance, MOT, lowered value etc considerations You can fit two wheels on the rear. That is the way to go if there is no space underneath, if...

    Axle swivel kits

Bought oil seals from Milner with other parts - they were leaky from the start - won't buy another from them. Why do they insist on selling crap? - had no problem with their other parts.

    A most excellent 50 series

Yeah the Japs occasionally made strange looking vehicles didn't Austin copy the headlights for the Healey Sprite? :) I wouldn't say no to a virgin 55 but they don't exist here

Alternator HJ61 not fully charging + rough idle

Thanks guys. VR - I will look for a replacement and test. But I thought it would be in the alternator when it is rpm related? Carbon is what I was thinking, it has just been sitting too long. Old diesel engines love to work.

Alternator HJ61 not fully charging + rough idle

On idle, charging voltage stays at 20 volts, not enough to charge my two batteries. At 1500 rpm it charges at 28 volts. If I put on a load, such as headlights or fan, voltage drops. So running around town, batteries are drained and I am stuck. Fan belt was my first thought, but it is like new...

    12HT Engine, any good?

True, should have said they prefer the 60 to the 80 because of the simplicity. But they said they thought 12HT was more durable than the 1HZ and they should know; doubt anyone run their landcruisers as hard as they do. Here we are in the windy Tenere in 2009 Good luck with your 80, I am going...

    12HT Engine, any good?

I just helped a touareg friend rebuild his 12HT, with a kit from down under. Quite affordable I thought, 1295 AUD including con rods, pistons, rings, all bearings, gaskets. For once shipping was reasonable, usually kills any dealing with Oz. I was happy when it arrived to find all Japanese...

Rusty HJ60 Restoration and Overland Build

Interesting read; congrats to a job well done! You must've put in several hundred hours? Goes to show that when this far gone, they are basically un-repairable, unless you are a good welder yourself, and can spend the time. Giving it away to someone to fix it is not an option - too expensive...

    hj60 springs

Have some experience with springs but am no expert. My preference with a 60 series is not comfort but strength. Looking for a nice ride buy an 80 with coil springs. Leaf suspension means handling won't be great. Original six leaf suspension is too weak. Will sag when fully loaded, even worse for...

One is a white 1985 hitop with rear lids, the most common model 60 in Sweden. Took the family to Morocco and beyond in December. Two is a red 1980 with a turbo 12H-T engine, that someone put in later then. Serial number is HJ6000900068, making it #68 off the assembly line in September 1980. Not...
