Fully endorse all the above. Trevor and Ed at Freedom have given me excellent short notice service and advice preparing for a recent trip. Good prices too. I also got some valuable info by text/WhatsApp over a turbo problem whilst transiting through Spain. At last someone nearer to...
Julian has done a lot of the early work on my truck and it has been top quality. But he is always very busy and its not easy to get hold of or booked in (unless its an emergency) without a long wait. So I need back up for day to day stuff.
Be my guest - it is funny now looking back on the years of problems with later model LRs I had, as well as the endless cost of replacing ear defenders and the lack of leg room blah blah blah. Sunday nights are no longer making sure the thing would go for work on Monday...:icon-biggrin:
Yes thanks Chris I have taken advantage of loads of good advice and info on the forum, but I am limited on working space and ability so the time comes when I do need to shell out for work done by someone else. It is of great value at least to be able to relay the tons of useful (and even some...
Thanks Shayne you are right I am looking for a proper mechanic who knows LCs and doesn't charge main dealer prices. I thought it wouldn't be that laughable an idea - but it was worth a try. Stourbridge is not too far so I will look at Motoweld if nothing else turns up, unless your uncles want...
Thanks for the succinct reply clive : were you laughing because of my hopeless quest, or because I had Landies for years ? Either way I am glad if I have brightened up you day. I am still looking
Thanks for responses, but just to explain more I meant an independent garage/mechanic who doesn't work for a monster dealer charging horrendous hourly rates. Very happy to pay a more than fair price for good work. At the mo I have some minor electrical issues, but I am also looking longer...
Agree - good discussion on this sad event. But he was clearly guilty under the Geneva Convention rules and he wasn't in a firefight or under threat so "heat of the moment" is not an excuse. Worse he is a very experienced senior NCO trained to set an example, not a raw teenager, and he even...
Who would do such a daft thing??? Well most of us if we are honest. After my second little error over the years (driving 4 assorted motors) I finally put a bright red "DIESEL " sticker inside the filler flap....ok so far................
Thanks again Rollence. It looks like T4A is the business for me via Oziexplorer probably on the Samsung Galaxy - other threads seem to say this is good kit. I can keep my "pocket" garmin gps in reserve
GPS in phones
Ah thanks for that. My confusion is that I thought phones needed either a mobile signal or wifi and did not work direct to a satellite system as does garmin. So although campsites etc may have wifi there wont be any in the outback . So whilst I may think I am heading to a...
Thanks Vrecha - I get the main message - smartphone option seems good enough for most overlanding but GPS better for serious off roading? As I have a small Garmin for emergencies I guess I should investigate smartphone options more. Anyone recommend android or apple phones with maps for that...
Great Yogi - thanks for the interest...........But I was really hoping for a reply from someone who knew **se from elbow on these things! Living in hope.
Planning a trip down through Morocco and W Sahara/Mauritania next year I need advice on nav systems please. For these (some tarmac but some offroad) areas what system gives the best coverage on a good-sized screen as I am without a navigator?
I have a small pocket garmin GPS for walking but...
Don't know about Depo, but I have had the HID upgrade for a year and they are literally brilliant. Fantastic light level - no need for a bar full of extra lights !
Thanks for a fascinating insight to the club/forum and many views. Lots of toys thrown out of cots. I have already had a massive amount of help and advice in my short time as a member and learnt a lot. One trip to a main dealer to sort any one of my probs would have cost at least 20 years...
Thanks Frank but my rear wiper is fine. Just shows how random these faults can be, so I guess I just have to work through all the electrickery things and hope I find one that doesn't work - and see if fixing it stops the dash flash. or a dry connection somewhere in the looms which responds to...
Good luck with the new Alt. I went through same process a few weeks ago. Bought a replacement Alt from a dealer recommended by Denso (who should know) but what they sent didn't fit (bolt flanges drilled out in wrong places...). Returned it and got one locally for almost as much as Simon was...

Paul Channer is the sales and renewals manager at C Knott : he told me to use his direct numbers and not the switchboard in future: 01424 205005 | Mobile: 07787 422879. He was in last saturday but guess not every one. Good service so far - always called back when he said he would etc.
Spent the last week trying to renew cover on my 80 and finally came up trumps with Chris Knott. Just finished my standard mods - 2" lift uprated suspension and brakes, extra 80 Ltr fuel tank etc - so my previous insurer Direct Line were not really interested. Adrian Flux wanted over £600 and...
Great choice! It took me 6 months to find a good one - and then I had to pay well over the "list price", but it is worth it. Just now and again a forum member will have to say a sad goodbye to his 80, so that would be a very good option - but you would have to be quick off the mark. Great...
Hi thanks for that - just called A Flux and they quoted £615, which would hurt a lot, so am waiting for 2gether to get back and maybe try NFU as well. Perhaps seats taken out doesn't always figure as a mod ? Very odd - less risk if there are no pax in back!
BUT KNOTT FOR ME.........
Just rang this firm for a quote but only got as far as advising that I had taken all rear seats out (as in to make a storage/camper bit in back) and the nice man said "the underwriters won't cover a vehicle with seats taken out" ??????????????? Waste of time so waiting...
Where's best to buy the Waeco CFX - is there any point shopping around or are pricres pretty much the same. Looks a great piece of kit - I used 12v Waeco on a boat and it was brilliant in the hottest conditions - but its a lot of cash for a cold beer
And me. Simon is abreath of fresh air - had lots of stuff usually next day. He even got me bits for an old Toyo van at Club prices - but do mention the club discount scheme when you call
