    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

The EGR is ECU controlled. If you looked where the vacuum hoses went they would go to a VSV that it open/closed by the ECU. Some people when trying a EGR delete just put a ball bearing into the vacuum line before the big valve so it cant see it's signal to open. It does not serve as a post...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

it's controlled by the ECU. the EGR has a vacuum operated diaphragm setup (similar to a wastegate) that when the ECU send the signal to a VSV it will make the diaphragm open or close.

Yep, i removed the egr system on mine when i bought it, it had done about 205,000 kms. Never inspected the inlet manifold or anything. Engine now has about 248,000 kms on it and after pulling it down, my god! the cacked up crap in the inlet manifold and head from that bloody egr setup...

that's based on EFI petrol fueled cars.

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Yea I have no egr, upgraded radiator from a later model Prado, upgraded to 10 blade fan from another model hilux, blocked off the lower bypass and moved thermostat to the top hose. Also run a rather large trans cooler. Thing ran like a dream temperature wise. I could smash it all day in...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Yea Beno, I drive my old turbo motorhome by the pyro. lower the temp, better my fuel economy as well.

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Think I would definatly be getting things checked out mate. Fitting a EGT gauge would be a good idea as well.

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Defiantly weird findings. Goes against everything I've learnt about diesels. Just a few links that could be interesting reading. https://www.dieselnet.com/tech/diesel_comb.php http://www.dpchip.com/home/diesel-tuning-and-air-fuel-ratios-afrs/...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Sorry, from a comment before I thought you had a 3" system but hadn't changed the dump pipe. My bad. The stock temp gauge is shocking, it is resistored from factory so it does not fluctuate or move around as much as what your coolant temps may. Run a aftermarket temp gauge and you'll see it...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

oops.. read that wrong sorry. do you have a EGT gauge? Has the fuel pump timing etc. been checked? An added intercooler should be giving you a cooler charge air and lower egt's if all is good. What boost pressure are you running? Would definatly look into a aftermarket dump pipe as well...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

so your having issues with the engine not coming up to temp? wouldn't you think that's a cooling system issue more than a fuel one?

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Every bit of research I've done and working with diesel equipment in the mines I have the belief that a diesel will run hotter if richer, this is where monitoring EGT's comes in handy if playing with your fuel and air. Everything you read mentions that a leaner burn on a diesel is a cooler...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Hi Bob. Those small holes in your original post/s do not 'vent' directly from the oil cooler on the side of the block. Coolant flows from the pump through the oil cooler jacket and back into the block surrounding the cylinders via 3 main holes half way up the oil cooling jacket and 2 extra...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

holy moly.. Sorry guys I completely forgotten about this thread. A recent issue has reminded me. Well I have to say after much vigorous 4wd outings and lots of heavy towing to the city with car trailers (city is a 720 km drive from here) the top mount thermostat was defiantly a bloody good...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

great info. i've got mostof the bits to play with mine, but i'm off to phuket at the end of next week, so i wont start stripping the surf down until i am home again (need the surf for a ~1440km trip to the city and back). so it's still going to be a while before i can post my...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

hi bob, thanks for the reply. yea i intend to put a aftermarket temp guage with the sender mounted into the top oulet pipe off the head. so you think it's worth keeping the bypass system working? the reason i wish to delete this system is to get all flow through the radiator. who know's if...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

hello from down under. sorry to bring up an old thread, but i wanted to know how your 1kzte cooling is going bob? have you had any more issues? i have a 1kzte in a kzn185 surf, and though i've only had 1 overheat on a soft sandy beach so far (havn't had the car long and it's 1 to many times...
