heads-up, two and a half LJ78's coming up for sale

thanks Clive. I'm out in Rex today, and did a quick run to a meeting up the dual carrageway here immediatly after posting that, was fun turning up to this posh new science place with all the gear on the roof and the throaty exhaust. Then to builders merchants for second time today fetching long...

heads-up, two and a half LJ78's coming up for sale

Hi folks, this is a early notice that I've decided to sell up my landcruisers... well, at least one of them and a garageload of parts anyway. I've had my fun and am too swamped with running a business and a young family to play with them enough. I have 'Rex', a well known vehicle on this...

    1993 LJ78 Engine Transplant to 4.2 auto

:) glad to report Rex's 2.4 still going strong and happy. Been my daily driver too for last 6mnths and I'm very pleased like Jim was. I had my early concerns, I read too much online about 2.4s overheating, had some unrelated niggles, and had to learn to drive it properly. Considering swap...

cheers Jim, really quite gutted i couldnt make it. i think i made the sensible decision in not coming tho or i might've had diesel all over the road somewhere. where i'm up to is; rigged up outboard tank direct to pump - runs GREAT Swapped filter cartridge and ran the rigged up line thru it -...

yes i'd been thinking boat tank but not quite got there. I'd also been looking at what tanks were available on ebay at the moment in case there was something cheap and local to be had i could strap in top of the tank guard like a genericy-shaped izuzu etc one. but boat tank in the footwell thru...

a little update: i have it running again! if i'm right the eventual fix shouldnt be too expensive. I cracked an injector and cranked it. a small amount of fuel came- not as much as id expect, but enough to guess the pump was ok. next i rigged up an alternative fuel source to eliminate...

Which torque converter for kzj95 with A343F automatic transmission?

the TO-61 is listed on amazon as being for the A343F. this page has a whole load of specs on the 90 series, says your transfer is a 'VF3B'. lots of info like ratios there too. if you need to find donor bits this lists toyota transmissions and the models they were installed in these guys in...

cheers ben, yes the build thread does need to start! it's just we're beginning with clearing out the gremlins! I'll get everything pulled apart and fixed up eventually, but i'm afraid for now my timescale is for years not weeks thanks for the suggestions, fueling does seem suspect. temporary...

    LJ78 overland camper build

Once started i left the truck idling for a good 10 mins. Smooth and no problems. I ran it down to where i can leave it (2min drive) and it drove no problem, think the turbo came on where it should etc. So once parked up i gradually ramped up the revs to see what I'd see or hear. It was smooth to...

Some more background: The engine generally runs fine apart from being a bit rough when starting. A puff of white and the exhaust bangs the chassis 2-3 times. 2 weeks ago it began not starting so good i.e it didn’t always catch the usual 1st time every time. last week I did 300mile trip to mid...

thanks Gav, i'll check it out. I'd read there is a sensor near the back of the airbox that can be disturbed and cause such symptoms. Hi everyone, welcome to the start of my build thread! It wont be as epic as some(!), but it may tell it's own story eventually! While the truck has been getting regular use and some minor mods and camping trips I’ve been saving up pics to make a worthy writeup. Plans for the next few months...

    1991 LJ 78 engine options?

when I bought my LJ78 I looked into engine swap options in case I ever needed one. Among what I found was this thread on how to fit a daihatsu engine. Not that I'd necessarily choose this option. But the thread is good because it details the aspects to be considered, and how to cut-n-shut a...

    Best Roof Racks

I'm about to start drawing plans for some bars/feet for my 70, to chat through what'd be the most cost effective design with a few of my local fabricators. I was going to price up in steel naked/galv/powdered, and also in ally. Ally I like for lightness, but it wont be as robust or...

    Camping Stoves

No probs. the 106s have your name on! The stove burners are as new in their boxes, with the pan set. There are 4 units, one in slightly different box style. There was also a loose burner head on the shelf (ex display?) so the pans for it might be about too. I'm almost tempted to get one of the...

    Camping Stoves

before I got a LC and joined this forum I hadn't realised I was a fan of camping stoves ...I have a few! So I got excited in a local hardware store today: 4 NOS campingaz globetrotters (£25 each), and most excitingly, 6 uber-rare 106 cartridges at only £2.50 each! I fitted longer 206 arms to...

    Exploring North Portugal in June

thanks for the comments guys, I was hoping I might get some feedback. My default thoughts had been ferry back for the obvious reasons, but I'd not expected the cost or inconvenient timings. I did Guildford to Mimizan in a day once, but that was in a 'normal' car, no chance I'm pushing rex at...

    Exploring North Portugal in June

All this talk made me get on with checking my own dates and costs. I'm on as tight a budget as possible. The rarer 'economie' crossing dates dont dovetail ideally with my plans, and a 26hr crossing vs. using the chunnel and a potentially 12hr drive (if done directly) that more than £100 cheaper...

    Rear tyres wont spin

If the cables that run along the rear axel are slack when the handbrake is off, then thats the problem. On mine it was the pivot on the end of the cables that needed freeing up (it sits under a rubber boot). Hope your problem is as simple to fix. Is it a manual or auto?

Thanks for the info Chris, Gary, and thanks for sharing your setup Andrew, it looks really practical and sensible - fantastic. how to carry camping gas and spare diesel

thanks for the link charlie, yes that's the sort of gas carrier I'm considering, I guess as a UK supplier they can confirm it's acceptable here. Putting a jerrican on the back seems to make a lot of sens to me - discrete, practical, low COG. but I rather not if it risks me getting hassle for it

how to carry camping gas and spare diesel

How to carry Camping Gas and spare diesel? 1st question is simply are we allowed a jerrycan on the backdoor in the UK or Europe? I'd like to carry spare diesel, but 2 jerrycans on the roof is cumbersome and OTT for most trips. 2nd is gas: how do you secure (and vent?) it? Are we allowed to...
