Thanks induna! I have cleaned the MAF sensor with no positive results. Could you post pics on where the intake air temperature sensor is?
There are no codes returned when I had it checked using obd ii.
Hi all,
I have a 90 series 5VZFE Prado which erratically experiences rough idling (or misfiring). I have tried everything that may cause the problem as follows but still no luck:
- New spark plugs
- New spark plug wires
- New ignition coils (x3)
- New fuel filter
- New fuel pump...
Hi,
I recently installed a rear tow bar / bullbar to our car, now the problem is that the ride bacame too soft that having 3 people causes the rear to go all the way to the stopper during slight bumps due to the added weight. Could anyone recommend a stiffer set of shocks can put in the rear...
UPDATE:
I have put in a fresh batch of Castrol Axle Limited Slip 90 Oil plus 2 bottles of Redline Friction Modifier Additive. Problem still persists.
What's next? I am now inclined to follow my mechanic's suggestion of totally removing the spring in the LSD to alleviate torque. But before I...
The diff oil has just been changed in hope to alleviate the problem. I used castrol axle limited slip 90. From cold, turning one wheel causes the other wheel to turn the same direction. After driving a few, same direction still.
I feel that the LSD "sticks" too much when it gets hot which makes...
This is related to my thread -> http://www.landcruiserclub.net/forums/showthread.php/50589-Differential-grinding-noise-when-parking-Prado-97-3400-V6
The problem was traced to be the rear differential all along. The problem does not manifest after a cold start. After driving it for 15 mins...
Good point! But I think it is not much difficult to look at the undercarriage and see if I can find the specific part.
Anyway, I was already able to identify where I removed it from. But I decided to removw it again since I do not think that it is for this specific car. I saw another same...
Here's an update:
I have not brought the car to the nearby Toyota because apparently, they do not accept Toyota's that are more than 10 years old!
Having no other option, I brought the car to yet another service center. They checked and double-checked the CVs as per my request but they...
Ok sorry for the ignorance. Uber newbie here hehe.
After going to 2 reputable service stations and no sure diagnosis, I think I'll just have it brought to Toyota to be sure. I'll just prepare myself when billing time comes hehe.
I'll keep everyone posted once this has been resolved.
Thank you for all your replies. I have not checked the car's CVs yet when I stumbled upon this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXdVNzjAFO4
It talks about locking hubs. I still am not familiar with locking hubs and this is the first time I have driven a 4wd (I'm a newbie to 4wd and I do...
Thanks clivehorridge especially for the summary/review!
I think I would have to take back what I said regarding the sound going away when I steer more than 180 degrees. It does still make the sound based on my latest test drive.
I have also observed that there is some resistance as I hear the...
Is it normal that i could not turn and rotate the front shaft by hand? I saw another 4wd truck (not a prado) in the service shop and its front shaft can be rotated.
I found this video regarding the front drive shaft -> http://www.google.com.ph/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=7&ved=0CEoQtwIwBg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0Xy79Fp4Spk&ei=cIStUpSXLImlrQf4uYGQDA&usg=AFQjCNFfgTPT-rImeanvOcZ3Isr6l6z2pQ&sig2=LsUhqhiYIQLY_idw8j_0og

I do not have the shiny part as in the pic in my Prado, but I noticed that there is an electrical connector which is not plugged anywhere. Could this be related to my problem? I do not see anything the connector could have been disconnected from though.
I just did this and I was able to turn one wheel by hand which means that the differential is not locked. Could it be that it somewhat locks itself erratically as I am turning?
I had it at H and the diff lock notification is unlit. But by the way it is, I guess you are on the right track that the car seems to be not disengaging the diff lock. How do we remedy this?
I am still inclined to think that it has something to do with the differential and it being 4wd. I recall jonnyboy54321's post regarding the differential being engaged. How do I check this?
Yes I don't think so either. Please disregard my post regarding the problem being caused by me having it jacked up here.
I am actually currently at the service station. The mechanic is also clueless as to the source of the noise. Is there a particular part you want to see? I can take a pic and...
Some more additional information:
- the sound occurs even when slightly stepping on the brakes or slightly engaging the hand brakes
- the sound occurs even when I have the car on neutral - as long as the car is running slowly and the wheels turned either left or right
- the sound occurs...
I think I know what may have caused the problem. The noise started after I have jacked the car at the front. I placed a floor jack in the middle of the metal bar in between the front wheels. Then I placed two stands at the ends of f the metal bar for support. I realized that this may have caused...
Yes, this is the same car. The noise occurred after this part was removed but not immediately after. Also, I have a friend who also owns the same Prado model and he had this part missing as well without any problems with his car.
I also had all the brakes checked and cleaned to have it ruled out. Had the front brake pads replaced. The problem existed before and after the brakes were checked.
I recall that I recently had the car 'underwashed'. It made the sound sometime thereafter. Might it be that some components lost its lubrication due to the pressure washing? But, I also had some components greased after that.
Here are some additional info:
- It does not make the sound when going straight (either forwards or backwards)
- It makes the sound when I steer starting around 40 degrees either to the left or right
- The sound stops when my steering reaches 180 degrees OR when I accelerate and go 15 kph and...
Thanks for the replies. By the way, it is made of hard plastic, not metal. Fridayman, if it is not too much trouble, can you post a pic where exactly this part should go? Thanks!
