Hi Clive!
I don't haul really heavy trailers with my 80, I borrow a truck for that as there are more than enough of them here in the USA. :icon-rolleyes: So many in fact that I sold mine as there was no point in keeping it when my friends all seem to have one. This will be more for cargo...
The damnedest thing happened yesterday. I engaged the CDL while driving about 30mph and it engaged and the light came back on. It's been working ever since. I have no idea if doing it with some speed helped or what happened there, but I'll take it.
Hello again!
My 1993 FZJ80 has developed a new quirk. When I engage the center diff lock the light does not come on. I know the locker is working, I can hear it and feel it in how the truck handles. When that occurs the front and rear lockers will not engage. Occasionally if I turn the...
I'm guessing you are correct. I may also have assumed there were two because the 03 Dodge Dakota I just worked on had two that needed replacing. THAT is a job I never want to do again. This looks to be much, much easier.
You know, I never thought about it. The code said #2 so I assumed there were two. I'll have to go under the truck and look. I may be about to feel very foolish.
Hi all. My 93 told me that I need to replace the #2 oxygen sensor. I can't seem to find anything to tell me which one that is, and with the price of the things I want to make sure I replace the right one. Could someone tell me which one is #1 and which is #2? Thanks for the help!
Nah, I'd rather let it stay on to remind me of the problem. I'm pretty sure it's an O2 sensor or a vacuum issue as it only comes on under hard acceleration. When you reset the engine light it stays off until you really step on it again. I need to check it out in case it might save me that...
End result is 2548 miles on the pavement and 10 on a dirt road near Big Sur. The check engine light is back on and the air conditioning belt needs to be tightened. Other than that everything ran smoothly. The truck returned between 12.5 and 16.2 mpg US depending on traffic conditions.
Good day all!
My trip to California started out with the check engine light coming on about 5 miles from my house. There were no other symptoms and the car was running like a top so I continued down the road. Once I was at a stopping point I tried pulling the EFI fuse but that did not reset...
I'm not sure I will get any off road time on this trip. To be honest I would be taking my other car for the MPG if not for a blown head gasket. The shop can't fit it in until after I return.
I love Google Earth Clive! I used to spin the world and then center in on wherever it stopped.
Sooooo..... I spent the last couple of days replacing the radiator and belts because I couldn't be bothered to watch a few videos and learn the quick and easy way to do it. Then the radiator I...
I can confirm the Hazard light/CDL switch. I used the hazard switch as my CDL switch until could find the time to wire in a basic flip switch. Not pretty, but it works and now I have my hazards back.
On another note, congratulations to Clive on a less than terrifying repair bill!
Nothing overly exciting I'm afraid. I will be heading from the Oregon/Washington border down Interstate 5 to just north of Los Angeles to visit family with a few stops on the way to check in on old friends. The after 10 days we will head back up along the California coast to visit Big Sur and...
Well, once I repaired the upper radiator hose it took a day and a half for the back of the radiator to start leaking. I pulled the fan shroud and it looks like something took a big bite out of the rear of the radiator. Honestly I've never seen anything like it. There was quite a bit of green...
It's two weeks to the day before I leave on a 2100 mile trip and my upper radiator hose started leaking at the fastener. I'm sure hoping this was a good thing (it happened now as opposed to on the road) as opposed to a harbinger of things to come.

Sounds sensible enough. I've already installed the CDL switch and disconnected the automatic engaging of same in low range. I've just fallen in love with tinkering with the truck and I've about run out of things I can do with a non existent modification fund. I'll leave well enough alone as...
Actually, forget I asked. I was looking over the G-class Mercedes and although it has individual switches it seems to call for them being engaged in the same way as the Cruiser works. I'm guessing there is a very solid reason for that.
I'm sorry if this has been covered, it's just a thought I had before I head off to bed. My 93 has the switch for the e-lockers. You must engage the rear locker before it will allow you to engage the front. Can I wire this into two switches, one for the front and one for the rear? If so is...
I received a bit of a shock today when I looked at the front of my 80 and realized the passenger side front bumper end cap was hanging loose. As near as I can tell, at some point a previous owner got in a bit of an accident and broke most of the screw mounts on that bit. Rather than replace...
About 6 months ago or so when I first got my truck, a number of you helped me figure out why my center locker and therefore my front and rear lockers were not engaging. Tonight I was pass on that info to someone with the same situation. I could never have done it without you, thanks again.

Hiya. Been offline for a bit due to no internet access. I bought a new phone and downloaded the app recommended on the mobile version of this page. (Can't remember the name of it for the life of me at the moment) My question is this: Since I am logged into it through my Google+ account, can...
93 gas/petrol here. I went and looked at mine and found this
But it doesn't look like the same thing. It's located on the right side of the dash facing out.
As to it being an alarm sensor, I have this below my valet switch and always assumed that it was the pressure sensor for the alarm...
Hello all, sorry I haven't been on lately so I don't know if this has been covered recently. Can a ridged CB antenna be mounted directly to the stock front bumper or do I need to do something special or look for a better location? I'm not doing any real "off roading" just yet, but there's a...
Good Lord! What are the ones in the picture above and where can I get some? To be honest, I have no idea what are in my truck but I do know that they outshine the SIX lamps I have on a 1978 Chevrolet Suburban..... and that's on low beam.
Well Chris, like I said, I believe in the voice of experience. I do believe that when it stops raining in a week or so I shall go under the truck and take a look. No sense in messing with a system that's not broken. Thanks!
Hey Chris, I have a question for you regarding that pin 7 mod. I was under the impression (perhaps falsely) that what it did was to allow me to unlock the center diff while in 4L, but you mentioned something about the gear changes. What was that about? BTW, I still have not done that mod, so...
Seriously? I need to go out and get some spare bulbs just in case! (oops, forgot to quote the bit about the brake lights out and can't put it in drive)
Hiya Crispin. I should have posted that I figured it out. I didn't realize there was a difference between "profile picture" and "avatar picture" until today. The last time I was part of a vehicle club online it was for my VW Type III 15+ years ago. A lot has changed since then! I had a...
Probably in the wrong forum, so feel free to move it. My '93 is missing the left rear seat, but still has the mounting bar in place. I have a commercial size fire extinguisher I was thinking about securing to the bar. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a ready made solution...
I did nearly the same thing in a parking garage with a BORROWED truck! I was so busy watching one mirror while I was backing up that I failed to notice that the parking spot was one with a concrete support pillar on the other side. Just grazed it, but put a pretty nice scratch in the back all...
