One of my New Year's resolutions is to learn/do a bit more DIY on the truck. I aready have the Max Ellery manual and a fairly decent set of tools. However, one of the essentials that I was really missing was a decent jack. The 2 tonne "normal" trolley jack I have just didn't have enough height or ooompf to lift the cruise safely. So I took a look at the "trolley jack" thread and forked out for a suitable 3 tonne job from Machine Mart. I also bought a (8t) bottle jack to add to the tools I carry in the car.
So in the interests of safety, what are the best jacking points on a Collie front and rear using a Trolley and/or bottle jack? I intend to use axle stands - I have 4 decent ones so should be able to keep the whole vehicle off the ground, if necessary.
Probably sounds like and is, a simple question, with an equally simple answer.
Using the trolley jack on the rear, I would imagine that lifting the whole of the rear via the diff casing would be OK. Where would you place the bottle jack? Seems a bit precarious using a bottle jack under the diff housing?
...and what about on the front? Anywhere on the chassis rail would be OK I assume?
Thanks in advance, as always.
