Diff locks?

I'm sending my 80 home to ZA soon and so am looking for a newer 100 series (5 speed box)

I had a look at a 2005 100 series yesterday and [strike:2foq7u38]couldn't see[/strike:2foq7u38] didnt notice any diff lock switches.
Does any one know if the the std UK spec 100 series came with diff locks?

Traction control from then on I thought? Could be wrong. Have you checked the Toyota UK website for the vehicle spec PDF - under the Used Cars link ...

The traction control was only available on the petrol models, it was never available on the Diesels.

Standard UK spec for the 100s is to have a centre diff lock controlled by a dash switch and then a rear diff lock controlled by the standard rotary switch to the left of the steering wheel.

That'll explain why then. I was looking at a Petrol cruiser not diesel.

Debating the petrol vs diesel purchase for a 100 series.
Petrol 137.9 Diesel 149.9/l today in Herts.

According to official mileage figs (so I'Il use those) the fuel stats are thus:
Tank capacity 21.12gal

Petrol 17.3mpg = range on full tank 365 miles
Diesel 26.6mpg = range on full tank 561 miles

Thus....
Petrol range = 365miles = cost to fill ~£132
Diesel range = 561miles = cost to fill ~£144

So spending the same £144 wood buy an extra 1.9 gal of Petrol, giving one an additional 33 miles = 365+34.6 ~ 400miles
Difference of 161 miles or ~9 gals of petrol to achieve same distance travelled.

Hmmm so for every full tank of Petrol, and in order to achieve the same mileage as a Diesel, I'd need to spend and additional £56.
thats about 11 tank fills over 6,000 miles = about £615 more for petrol.

I could of course look at installing LPG, but according to my calcs I"d need to drive for ~18,000+ miles before I broke even on costs.. assuming there is no damage to the truck.... so for about 3 years I'd be no better off...Then of course I have to find an LPG station and the nearest to me is a 14 mile round trip! sounds like too much of a faff to me.

Then there is the whole Bio/UVO debate... also sounds like a headache and a hassle to save a few shillings. Thats after I've had to fork out at least an extra £4-5K to buy an equivalent diesel in the first place.

So on balance covering 6,000miles per year, I recon there is little meaningful difference. Me thinks life is a little too short to waste on trying to save £50pm.

After all that I still dont know if its a diesel or petrol that makes sence but i can tell you you are luck to get close to 400miles on a tank with a diesel 100.
