Hi, i have a 2019 Land Cruiser 150 Invincible and looking to add a second battery in the designated area, can anyone recommend a cheap place in or near London or any ideas on how i can do it myself, and where to buy tray etc from, also not sure if i want them running together or as an auxiliary battery, ideally i prefer to have it for powering up a 24h dashcam and as a backup if my main battery goes dead... any tips, ideas, information would be greatly appreciated. (out of curiousity my 2013 LC5 came factory fitted with 2 batteries, anyone knows how those work?)

secondly

i had a 2018 Invincible stolen, and already had 2 attempts thwarted at my 2019 which i believe is down to my Ghost immobiliser, which is great but still costing me every time as i need to fix the bumper they rip off, any ideas, recommendations etc, on the second attempt they cut my steering lock off, so any recommendations on a good steering lock would also be appreciated

There's a number of threads on here discussing security and fitting a fuel cut off switch always features highly .

Battery wise I wonder if something like this would suffice assuming it physically fits Advanced LXD100 Dual Purpose Leisure Battery | eBay - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]

The bumper damage i assume is to gain access by a known method and it has me thinking about the foil tape alarms shop front windows used to have years ago , break the glass you break the tape and spark the alarm .

Bored so trying to devise my own system I came up with this

Yank the bumper you break connection and trigger the siren .

From memory, the location has all the mounting points for a tray and I bought a bog-standard tray off fleabay and could get it mounted without much faff. Seeing as the tray is still on my shelf, I never finished the project :)

Alternatively, find a breaker with a dual-battery 150 and buy that for not-much.

Not sure if it's the same but I know other cars suffer from it -
They remove the bumper to gain access to the lighting harness which is on the CAN bus. From there, they connect their own "do dah" which injects a message onto the bus to either "trust / pair the next key you see" or to unlock the doors. CAN was not designed to authenticate messages so anything on the bus is trusted by the designated receiver. :fearscream:

If you add a battery you also need a split charge system which is why i suggested you replace your single battery with a duel purpose battery .

My eyes glaze over and i fall asleep when reading about elecktrickery so i'm not fully clued in about the dual purpose , but as i understand it a small part of the battery is designed to give the starter motor a powerful kick while the rest is designed to discharge slowly like a leisure battery .

My own interest was wondering if it could run a diesel heater for 8 hours and allow the truck to start in the morning or failing that is the crank part of the battery protected so i don't have to worry about the truck starting even if the overnight heater dies through lack of power .

It could be either way -
The factor 120 and 150 "cold-pack" ones are just linked together in parallel to for one big battery.

That's by far the easiest and does work well.
What it does not do is protect you from dead-battery.

If you do it the way you're suggesting, you can run a diesel heater for a long time without fear of a non-starter.
When you do start it, the DC-DC charger will wait for the main battery to charge and then charge the second battery. Cheap ones just link them together which is not great, "smart" ones will charge it properly which is best.

I'd say a 110Ah battery would be fine for a 8 hour run. My heater, from memory, uses 3-4A when up and running. For 8 hours you need around 70-80Ah.
I'd not risk it on my starter battery though- deff a second-battery job.

I'm a try it and see kinds guy so I'm hoping someone who's eyes don't glaze over whilst reading up on spec might care to add some logic to my theory .

If American motorhome's use them they why would my dual battery 80 need anything else if i just swapped batteries ?

The 80's batteries are a different configuration IIRC- they're in series to give the starter 24V. Not sure if there is anything special about them over that to manage the charge between them though.

American motorhomes - not sure. I am sure they have some dual-battery setup which manages the charge between them.

I've unintentionally stole the thread from Jez so apologies for that .

Technology will only interest me when my phone will make me a cuppa .

That said it seems the extra power is only needed to run a camera so wouldn't a 10,000mah usb power bank do that ? Buy 2 change and charge daily ?
