Future of ELCO

Hi Folks,
Like John Burrell, I would also like to see ELCO to continue and if it
demands more expensive software, then I, as probably the majority of
the members would not mind to contribute economical.
How many potential donors are we likely to have and what is the cost
of the software?

it seems a little silly to spend money to get a tiny bit of increased fucntionality. A lot of forum software can produce RSS feeds and most email programs can download RSS feeds. In this way you would get the same "style" of usegae but with more fucntionality.

The problem with a mailing list is that you just get EVERYTHING no matter whether you want it or not- most of the ELCO emails go into a specififed folder which then gets deleted when i haven't read them after a couple of weeks. As someone else mentioned it can be very hard to keep track of what the hell is going on when an email has gone through a few hands.

Forums usually reflect the membership=2C sometimes they are great=2C sometimes they can be crappy. The solution is a self moderated forum where people pipe up when they don't like something that is being said- forums should be easy to use=2C easy to search and without excessive rules.

Whilst there are benefits to using a mailing list=2C for a fair few people the negatives will turn them off completely! Few people are put off by forums and they add a huge set of benefits (easier to read=2C easier to store=2C pictures=2C html=2C events=2C stickies etc etc).

It makes sense for ELCO to merge with landcruiserclub.net in my opinion- they both have the same feeling=2C and one would reflect the other.
As a compromise perhas landcruiserclub could agree to work as a repository for the ELCO threads? so every quarter the archived ELCO threads are put online at Landcruiserclub.net. It does depend on how easy it would be to update=2C but suspect that one the first update had been done=2C subsequent ones would be quite quick.
