I am after a corse helicoil kit and I have no idea if which brand to get. Cant seem to find many kits made be Helicoil themselves. Lots of V-coil on the net and loads of other brands, and advice on which ones I should avoid?

I was thinking of this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDGTOOLS-...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item51a97381d1 to start with (yes I know most bolts on the LC are fine so I could get this later: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDGTOOLS-...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item51a97385f6)

Alternatively I could get V-Coil kits as and when I need them as they seem to be by far the most common on ebay.

Memfast, the folk who make those nice rivnut sets, also do helicoils

Now that is more like it, now special tools required other than a standard tap. Would be nice if they also did fine threads.

Any other opinions?

is this a just in case purchase or to solve a specific problem now? I have something very similar to the rdgtools kit, I might even have got it from them as I do get stuff from them and I think I did use it once and it did what it was supposed to ... they are very good for certain things but there are often better solutions than a helicoil though.

what size to you want rob as i have a couple of kits. i think i have a m12 set may be more.
when you get them you normally get the tap and the tool to put them in you just need to buy the correct drill bit for them.

Jon, I need a coarse thread M8 x 1.25 kit to fix a thread that I knackered on the Volvo because the bolt was not only threaded into a section of bodywork but also had a nut on the other side! I now need to cut this bolt off as the rad has just failed.

Asking around at work most people have used Helicoil or V-Coil without issues however the cost of these kits is a bit on the high side. Really tempted to just buy a cheap one or get the memfast inserts if I can find a M12x1.75 tap somewhere.

Got the M8 V-Coil one in the end, I have bought cheap tools in the past and almost every time I wish I had gone for the better quality one so decided on the V-Coil.

Missed this otherwise I would have said to also look for Time-serts.

For the kit we needed one in Australia and got it from a British company in the end! Cromwell Industrial do a good range of Thread Repair bits and pieces; both individual parts and kits with everything in them. Linky here
