Why do we have the option of hidden status?

It was there by default and I've never looked at removing it. Not sure why you would want to login and hide yourself? Bad hair day?

Nope - we do not have to. On the signup it says it's preferred but not required.

I've 'hidden' my self because I don't want folk to see that I'm a sad bastit that pops in here every 5 minutes.

As far as using real names goes, it wouldn't take 5 minutes for some unscrupulous scrote to locate me (and ultimately my LC) if I did so
