Hot weather and head gaskets

Personally I only use genuine OEM filters on all my vehicles. Just not worth the risk for the price difference.

A Ford Ranger oil filter is a direct fit. I believe it is exactly the same filter as the Toyota one (I can't remember where I first read that) and it costs about a third of the price:
Ford XM3J 6731 AA or Ford 1213438. I get Ford Motor Company branded ones off Ebay for a tenner or so.

The earlier heads before revision had 1A 1B or 1C and the revisied heads later 2A 2B or 2C. These codes are on the cylinder head above the exhaust manifold.

If there's no code then it has a copy aftermarket head.

Is this 1A etc. part of the serial number stamped into the head or separate to that?
The number I see has 13 digits with last four being 1A23.
