My first reaction: what a bunch of goofs, leaving such a vehicle un-
attended....the dream of every kidnapper/terrorist....sin#1 for every
driver/bodyguard of this caliber.
(the explanation of the thieves dismantling the GPS/GSM is silly of course, all
it takes is a large tarp of alu-foil, or a closed metal container)
Perhaps it's better that this vehicle is now used by someone who knows what
safety involves, instead of these clowns.
But, there are less conspicuous cars to steal, of course....it better end up in
some lawless territory anyway....:))

This made The Times today too. They didn't give the solution for the satellite tracking failing to work, but I assumed that a Faraday Cage would defeat it, and I'm interested to see that you confirm that.
Interestingly they also gave the list of "cars most likely to be stolen" in Germany; and while #1 was a BMW of some sort #2 was the VW Caravelle!
I prefer the James Bond solution - I think from "The Man with the Golden Gun".
