Piston Removal

Hi All,
Just wanted to ask a question on a 1HDT toyota motor in a 80 series cruiser I have.
I think I have a broken piston ring. Is it possible to remove the sump and the piston from underneath with
the motor still in place.

No, the crank is in the way.

Yes, head will need to come off. Once big end cap removed inside sump piston could be withdrawn from above in most cases. But if the bore is too scored???
