stereo probmems on 2001 100 series

My 100 series radio/tape multichange plays but is very quiet yopu can't hear it once moving. its also fitted with a toyota remote sat nav and the volume on the sat nav is perfect. is it likely to be a faulty head unit or amp and whats the best fix please?
