Overnight parts from Sheffield doesn't quite have the same ring to it as I'm used to. But alas. Here we are. An OM648. Arrived in under 24 hours from point of ordering... with free shipping... for less than £600... This will probably be the cheapest thing about this whole vehicle :tearsofjoy...
So, it's been a while. Life's been hectic. And by life I mean work. The week before I picked up Brenda I took over a new team in addition to my existing one and have been a lil bit busy with all that chaos.
But I have not forgotten. I've been busy in the background formulating plans, and...
While we await locating a new engine I'll be busy cleaning things up, and sorting out other bits and pieces. Really need to inventory all the stuff Hopeless gave me with this. Can probably sell off some of the spares and such to help fund the engine too
Ay, some of them on eBay are listed for north of 5k! That's where things get hard to swallow :tearsofjoy:
Getting more and more tempted with the FTE with the manual pump conversion... probably get the pump and injectors rebuilt while they're out too for good measure
A used engine is indeed my game plan now. I'm not a diesel guy so diagnosing exactly what's happened ain't my thing, I can only refer to experts opinions. At the end of the day a new engine is required so off I go to hunt. Will give 80 breaker a call, I'm considering a 100 series 1hd-fte too, so...
Head off. Valves impressively look fine. All pistons have feint valve marks... others however look fuggin' wrekt.
So that's been my weekend. How have all yours been? :tearsofjoy:
Stripped out the batteries, the fan shroud to get a two prong pulley on the camshaft pulley... Bah. More work required than expected apparently. Took the valve cover off and have pulled the "nozzle holder seals" ready to pull the injectors. Many of the rockers have play, some are solid still...
Not all the teeth have been stripped. But when it started losing power I got into a nearby layby and only turned the engine off once I was there, Hopeless joined me 10 minutes later and we tried to debug. We started and idled the car again at the side of the road before concluding it needed to...
Engine cranks fine (not tested after realising the timing belt dun died), camshaft moves fine too. So nothing seized internally from what I can tell. I'm inclined to guess fault with the belt too at this stage. Will continue to poke and prod
Got the cover off fully at least, camshaft turns over a few degree each way without issue so that didn't seize, tensioner pulley also moves freely as I've cut the belt off now.
Hopeless said it was changed 2 years ago, has gone up and down the country a bit but no more than 2k miles on it. All Toyota parts, tensioner too. Done at a known good garage.
We don't know what has lead to it being stripped yet. Bare in mind the engine has been cranked over a few times at this...

I purchased her from Hopeless today, and we've already begun making quite the tale together.
Well, it's been an eventful day. A long and eventful day. But we got to the bottom of it.
As any normal day when you got to collect a car, we prepared the night before.
Hooked up a trailer as we knew Hopeless Wanderer had oh so many parts in store for us, filled the tank as we had a bit of a...
Had to create an account to throw my name in the hat of potentially being interested in this when the time comes. Can you shoot me a PM? I believe I'd need to post a few more times before I'm allowed to start conversations
