I thought they had 12 teeth?Something to bear in mind is that some have 5 teeth and some have 6 on the starter. Both work fine but the 5 tooth strips after a few years- not good!!
You could be right Bat. I can't remember it's a long time ago but there is a difference in the teeth. I thought it was 5 and 6. 12 sounds a bit many for a starter pinion to me but I could be mistaken. Anyhow, it's still a good idea to check the number of teeth whatever.I thought they had 12 teeth?
Fair enough Dave, my memory is crap these days. There is one tooth different anyway so 11 and 12 it will be. All I know is I had the wrong one supplied when I set fire to my original and I had to change the pinion when it jumped. It sounded different from the start but lasted about 6 years I think. After five years I have finally bought the correct starter, definitely 12 teeth. As per my previous post , the HDJ 100 starter is 12 volts but the pinion is smaller, this may have perhaps 11 teeth that StarCruiser is thinking of? I have pictures somewhere.
regards
Dave
Dave, did you go for the same one Gary (Garfieldus) fitted, or did you fine one elsewhere? After five years I have finally bought the correct starter, definitely 12 teeth....

I am unsure where he sourced his again memory fog. I think his was from Aus ebay? Mine was too, a company called 'Auto 8'?
