Hi folks
Do you need to pull the engine to get at the cam on a 1978 2F engine?

Technically, no. But to install a new rear bearing with a bearing installation tool (such as Lisle 18000) the bell housing needs to be removed and since the bell housing is the attachment point for the rear mounts, may as well pull the engine. Gary

thanks gary.
friend, my mechanic died suddenly in the midst of my 2F build. I've got it put together but all I have are some build pics he took and can't quite figure out what he did and didn't do. Can you take a look at these photos, maybe offer your two cents? I've got it back together, compression's good and tight but sounds like camshaft noise and the hydraulic fuel pump doesn't work. I installed an electric one.
The reason for the rebuild was water was getting in the valves (see pic).
Thanks amigo!

Hi. Not readily apparent from photos - could be one of a myriad of issues. Step 1: "water getting into the valves". One or more of three potential problems: cracked block, cracked head, blown head gasket. Do you have any knowledge of the block or head being magnafluxed for cracks? Do you have the old head gasket and if so, was it broken in any spots?
