I saw this the other day and reading the comments I’m not sure what effect if any this will have on classic vehicles. Suffice to say, generally, if something is done by a government department ‘for your benefit’ it often turns out differently to advertised.

Anyway, thought this may well impact some here, so well worth taking a look at the rather tricky worded survey linked in the video description.

Lastly if it’s not for you but you know someone it might impact, maybe it’s worth sharing to them.

All the survey does is state the law as it currently stands and asks for opinions on wether any parts of it need updating. As the video says, the danger is in what sort of responses they get and from whom.
A big response from the Eco mob, be it from individuals or their "organisations" could be a disaster.

I built a motorcycle up in 1985 with a mix of new and used parts and it was given a Q plate. Some years later I fitted an identical, used replacement V6 engine (rebuilt and tuned:thumbup:) in a Sierra I'd bought with a cracked block. I just sent the V5 off to DVLA with the new engine number and it was updated no problem.
I think we all agree the Gov ultimately wants all fossil fuelled vehicles off the road, the only saving grace for the older owners among us is the timescale which will see us out.

Messing about building rally cars in the late 80's & 90's......
I had a Mk3 Escort shell converted to RWD and using a mix of Mk 2 Escort running gear and a Sierra Cosworth engine..... KTD 35P..... the only original Mk2 escort part was the chassis plate and the reg number ;-) . This was registered , taxed and MOTed and no one batted an eyelid..... no wonder some government jobsworth decided to change things.... but as late as 96 I still had a never registered built for Rallycross Works TR7 V8 that became a road going rally car by the purchase of a scrap TR7....
And that's before you start looking at the professional works rally cars..... I've seen 2 identical cars with the same reg number .... parts were swapped about or more often just number plates fitted to newly built cars ....

This is a concern because no Government ever did anything to make our lives simple ..... they have an agenda and this consultation is just a smokescreen...they'll do what they want anyway

Yes back in the day all you needed was a valid REG plate and insurance. What vehicle the REG was on did not really matter. And MOTORBIKES the biggest "offenders" frames and engines being swapped frequently, but as long as you had a valid REG plate everythin was OK. My neighbour rode his Norton ES2 to work in the winter because it had lights, but in the summer he rode his stripped down International Norton. Both had the same REG plate.
In the sixties I used to ring the Registration people in Swansea to ask about log book histories etc. I Always got through to someone whom picked the phone up and got all the records out. Simple and delightful days.
