and a little movie of the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rATFAuSBos8&feature=youtu.be

It's a nice place to drive, In holland there aren't many big places where it is alowed to drive offroad.

no update's on the landcruiser this week  busy with other stuff.

I went to furstenau in early January 2013, it's a great place to goto. There is much more than a days worth of driving there.. I reconised the dark wet mud!!

I lost my rear wheel arch trim at the same place at the begining of the youtube vid! (They are there to get broken!)

It's a good place to go! Your post brought back memories!

You have a great re build thread going on here and you are progressing well.. All the best of luck with it!! Iwan..

Thats awesome, thanks for the pics.

received the new rear shocks from terrafirma, ( landrover discovery 2 +2" )

realy like them, they have a nice big body, witch contains a lot of oil.

In our storage room a found a set of almost new Monroe front shocks of a Jeep GC.
there about 3" longer then the oe Toyota one's , So if i modify them slightly the will fit on the Landcruiser.

lets begin:

IMG_2323.JPG
Toyota above, Monroe under

IMG_2324.JPG
cut the tube of the Monroe, and the threathed part of the Toyota

IMG_2326.JPG
Littlebit of welding and cooling down in a bucket with water.

IMG_2325.JPG
First one done

IMG_2328.JPG
Both done

IMG_2330.JPG
Put some gloss black paint on them for the show element :icon-cool:

dit the last welding on the chassis

fliped the chassis over for some final welding on the under side

IMG_2374.JPG
Side support bracket to lokate the rear axle

IMG_2377.JPG

I'v decided a to let the chassis be galvanised ( hot dit galvanizing )

so a recieved some pricing on it, they ask 0,95 euro per KG
saying the chassis weights about 150 kg ( incl. transmission carrier ) that would make it +/- 140,- euro's

think that beats the hell out of painting

down side is, they want it shot blast first and I have to seal all the threathed holes with old bolts to keep het galvanizing out.

hope to get the chassis shotblast next week.

cheers,

It can't be a downside, can it? Shot blast and galv, better than any paint job and at the price you've been offered, not much more expensive I'd imagine.

Plus the added bonus that you can sit and watch TV at the same time

When's the next load of work going to be uploaded I wana see what else you've done to it

Will the hot galvi dip not distort the chassis or twist it as its gota have a lot of heat applied??

sorry for the late update , but here it is.

IMG_2502.JPG

got the chassis back from the sandblaster, nice rust and paint free.

so we dropped the chassis of at the guy who gone hot dip it.

so it was time to begin attacking the rust animal :violence-chainsaw::violence-chainsaw::violence-chainsaw:

right side in place

If anyone is wondering why I didn't weld the side panels, I glued them in place
hoping its giving less distortion, so it would be easyer to get it filled and painted.

IMG_2599.JPG

removed the rear windows, just a little bit of rust onder the wheather strips

IMG_2598.JPG

stripped down the rest of the interior.
next week trying to get the roll cage done and maybe some sanding

Just orderd some parts : 5 l of satin black , inlet snorkel , ARB winch bumper
stuff should be coming in next week :dance:.

Try to make my update's more frequently

Great work.

Interesting idea about sticking the panel on rather than welding, I like it. :icon-biggrin:

Where did you get the new panels from?

"lekker bezig" as we say in Dutch, proper job!
I'm interested in the hot-dip results of your chassis. As I'm doing my -61 project I'm trying to find the definite answer on galvanising the chassis. You hear both positive and negative story's. The 70 chassis is quit similar to a 60 when looking at the shapes and all.

Where will it be done?

HI Jente.

Dejo in Wolvega wil do the dipping.
brought the chassis there this week, so hopefully it will be done before the big holiday break.

when its done,, your invited to have a look at it

tomorow will involve a lot of sanding

I've seen a 60 series chassis blasted and galved a few years ago in Wales. Looked a good effective platform from where to start a full rebuild from.

Andy

The only down side i've ever heard about galvanizing a chassis is often all the holes need re-drilled afterwards which obviously puts a chink in the armour . So i would guess making all bolt holes slightly larger before galvanizing is ideal .

Small Update,

didn't get as far as I'd hope for, lots of friends came over to have a talk

IMG_2601.JPG

IMG_2602.JPG

recieved the "snorkel" I ordered, looks good, hope it fits ok
IMG_2605.JPG

also found a second hand winch bumper, what do you recon, is it a ARB bumper ???

Peter,

Where are you located? Would be nice to see the results on your chassis and body work. The invite is mutual off course.

Interesting approach on the panels, although my gut feeling says I'd go for welding.
