Hello everyone!
I'm new here so I don't know if this is the right thread or not - sorry if it is. Next year I am looking at either buying a brand new 76 series Land Cruiser wagon or an SR5 Hilux. I am on the fence between the two and I can't decide.
The LC76 is much tougher and far more capable off-road in my opinion. I really quite like the way it looks and the V8 is fantastic. The interior however is quite 'bare bones' and is a bit of a let down. I would have to get a new center console and a new sound system and what not but I really like the way the LC's feel to drive. I think I would also find more use for the extra space within the wagon rather than the tray in the hilux. The LC76 is also far easier to self service I believe as it is a more simple design and has less electronic and such.
The Hilux isn't as tough and I feel they are getting weaker as time goes on but they definitely aren't fragile, I just feel as if the Land Cruiser will last longer. The exterior is also quite nice however I think I prefer the LC76 at the moment. The Hilux also has a slower and weaker motor - it is still very capable but it's not like the Land Cruiser's V8. The interior is a lot nicer and it has a 6th gear (which I hear rumour the LC might be getting soon). The turning circle, surprisingly is larger than the LC76 as well, which will make it slightly harder to drive. The Hilux is however far more fuel efficient than the LC76.
I am not really concerned with the cost, I am just looking for a car that will do anything I ask and will still be with me in 10 to 20 years. I will be doing quite a lot of highway driving but I also want to get into 4WD. Which one would I get most enjoyment from and will serve me better. I am currently 17 and am planning on going into the Airforce and doing salary sacrifice so money will not be a major issue - to me at least - I just want to spend it well.
