Hi, Henry here from the currently sunny northern counties of the UK. New member on here, actually on any forum, and I reckoned I’d looked in from the outside for long enough.
I’m fortunate to have two land cruisers, an 80 series that is quite heavily modified for travelling, and a 120 that is mostly standard but for a 2” lift.
The 120 was our family wagon for the past 12 years and now has 243,000 miles on it. It’s been super but now a bit grotty underneath so it’s in a shed not MoT’d and I don’t know what to do with it for the moment.
The 80 I’ve owned for 17 years, is an jap import and is my third. It’s been to Tunisia and Algeria before I shipped it to Kenya when I worked in Uganda for a while. At the time it was much much cheaper to ferry it to Mombasa than buy something knackered there. It’s been to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Namibia and frankly South Africa. Then I shipped it home as I love it almost more than my family.
It’s running an arb bull bar, 12000lb winch (practically never used), recaro seats from the correct period but they’re a bit knacked. I think I’m on my 4 set of suspension, currently non adjustable Icon. 16” Toyota steelies as they’re tough, snorkel and some old light force spotties. Currently re-building it as it’s a bit worn out but still fantastic and better than almost anything else. I’ve some gullwings to install and an intercooler. Upgraded brakes are there as the standard ones are crap and some new seats on the wanted list. Recently it’s got an e-diff in the rear as it had an lsd as standard. Oh, and the gearbox has had a rebuild as it reallly needed it.
I’ve only a couple of pics of it on my phone and they’re from a few years ago but it looks basically the same.

Sorry if that’s a long winded description but I got carried away.

Henry

Stunning sounds like itz been about. Very early one on a h plate

Yes it’s an early one, and it’s been about a bit. Hopefully plenty more places to go in it. They do get under the skin, I think this one has actually gone to the bones! I got into them 20 years ago when people didn’t really want them, my first was a white P plate 24V manual. It was in a smash, and I found another, also P plate but blue and transferred all the bits. With hindsight I don’t know why I sold either!! If only I’d had a crystal ball then looking at what the market has become. The one pictured though has never given me bother, virtually no rust, immaculate chassis. In 40,000 miles in Africa nothing went wrong, though I was fairly diligent on maintenance. It’s currently at a well known specialist having some stuff done as I don’t have the time to deal with it.

Brilliant looking truck, plus all.the great adventures youve had!

Welcome along Henry, great looking truck. Maybe you'll get to a meeting with it sometime. I've been a long term 80 owner as well, ( since 97). There's just something about them that is endearing to a certain kind of follower.
