Hole in airbox output pipe

I have a hole in my aribox output pipe where the crankcase breather connects to it. I can completely remove the breather pipe including the metal bit that's meant to stay on the aribox output pipe leaving a a hole about 25mm across. I sit possible to repair this and if so how? I thought of using some type of silicon sealant product, any idea which one will work in a dirty, oily and hot environment?

I fixed a failry large hole in my airbox using metal epoxy bought at Halfrauds

Hmmm metal epoxy you say

I like it, thanks Lorin

Sorry but the obvious to me is mig weld a thin contoured plate over it. If you do use some glue type product, I would only do so over a metal repair section. Use some shears to cut a piece from a drinks can or something and epoxy over that. Not sure which bit you referring to exactly but if my air box under the bonnet of GW will replace it, you can have it Rob. It's the only bit that didn't get destroyed in the fire. I can put you down for 1 x tailgate and 1 air filter housing

The airbox on the 24 valve is slightly different so it will not fit, thanks for the offer Chris though. Well it might fit but there must be reason for the change.

I am talking about where the small breather pipe goes into the large pipe

Yes, mine's the other way around. I'd still mig it.

If only I had a mig or knew how to use one...

Might try and use the one at work during lunch but I dont want to learn on my airbox, I can see this ending badly

Hmm. True. Looks like it's the glue option then Rob. To mig it, it would want to be on a low setting, and just pulsed. So probably no more than not much more than 1 to 1.5 second spots. Any more and the heat builds up and you'll just blow through.

Err its not the crankcase breather but the rocker cover breather

Still needs fixing though

Why are you doing it?
How are you blanking the other end?

I think you have misunderstood Paul. The area around the small pipe in the pic above has cracked and now there is a hole in the airbox outlet pipe. I need to fix this as it is not air tight and it is post filter so water and all sorts of crap can get into the turbo and then the engine.

I have taken the top off the airbox and had to clean out the pipe that goes to the turbo as I am an idiot and did not think to clean all the dried on mud before removing the plastic pipe  . I have cleaned it up and will try to get it welded somehow, either I will practise on similar bits of steel first or I will get someone else to do it for me.

As a quick fix you can bolt some penny washers on either side with a bolt through the middle and some gunk to seal, or maybe rivet on a patch with some metal shaped to fit and some silicon.

Any use to you Rob?

Thanks Chas but it is the wrong one. One of the drawbacks of having a 24 valve is that its far more difficult to find used parts for it...
