These camera markings are not beside but in a layby (they are on the road too) near me on the Ewell bypass, do they really anticipate someone speeding in a layby? the layby is only about 100yds long  it's not as if road alterations have left old marks there, the road and layby have been there for years.

I guess its to stop people diving into the (hopefully empty) layby to avoid the speed camera :?

Does look a bit bizarre though.

Bob.

I grew up (well kinda!) in Morden and I know that road well. Bob has hit the nail on the head; its to stop boy racers speeding through the layby to avoid the camera. Ive seen it done along with driving down the hashed section on the A3 and pulling left just as the camera flashes where it goes down to 50MPH. There are some idiots round there now days. At least when I was young and foolish we kept it to the mad mile at silly o'clock in the morning.

You'd have to perform some dubious manouvres to get back on the road if you were speeding though.

I used to overtake people by using a layby. Was risky and you needed the right speed.

Was young and foolish...
