dogs advice

Yes, terrible :(
Why though was a dog given to someone without a garden and a place to run around free? What had the poor thing gone through before?
Still the new boy is asleep in front of the fire, the other two are curled up on my sofa! ( we are having toad in the hole for tea!) mmmmm, I think he has landed on his feet with slippers on too!

:) I'd say! Not a bad night for him, slept through till about 0330, then went out for a whiz, came back with a ball and dozed off again! They all sleep in our bedroom, we have a doggy sofa and they sleep on this and our bed!

Defo not gonna let Mrs JB see this post - otherwise that'll be the dog search permanently off !!

Ah, but when its really cold, we can gage just 'how' cold by the number of dogs piled on top! When it was -21 a couple of years ago, it was definitely a 3 dog & 1 cat night!

That's how the Eskimos/Inuits gauge the cold too - i.e. if it's -10C it's a 1 dog night, if -20C a 2 dog night and so on..... :icon-cool:

I have 3 friends that are vets and when I asked them which dog they recommend, all three had only good things to say about border terriers. Having owned boxers in the past, I wasn't taken with the look of the border terriers at first, but they have grown on me now and when the time is right will definitely be on the short list.

Huskies, malamutes, etc have very strong pack instincts and can be hard work to get/keep disciplined if you're new to dogs. Especially males.

Over here in Oz they have a local breed called a bull arab, which I like a lot - not sure if they are available in the UK. They are a nice size proper dog, with excellent family temperament. I like dogs that look like they might last longer than 5 minutes if I left them behind after a picnic (every year I watch Crufts and piss myself at the ridiculous dogs that you can get nowadays).

Yep, FM Border Terriers are just brilliant. I dogsit one most weekdays and she is such a no trouble dog.I have an Airedale but I would probably have a Border next.

Another vote for the Border Terrier. My BiL has one, amongst others, and it is a lovely dog - he was also recommended them by several vet friends as one of the best dog breeds for a family.

Got a couple of mates with border terriers - very good "house" dogs but fairly robust.......different proposition totally from a border collie :)

Got the new fella to sit still for a couple of mins! Update...name change to Sam (wife cant say Iouri) and he is 9m old, not 10!
