As most of you know I'm always pulled out and behind due to running around like an idiot.I'm sick to the back teethof idiots either advertising things for sale for me to either put my name on it or buy something off eBay for them to say sorry it's not for sale anymore. This happened on here the other day!I have people asking for help regarding pricing for trucks etc then not replying back to me if I'm interested in in.Latest one. I verbally bought a job lot off eBay. The guy wanted my word I'd collect and as I'm to my word I arranged collection tomorrow. Rings him up tonight to be told its sold. So I've swapped and planned work around for Tomoz dropped building tools at the job for Friday collected Daves trailer as its better than mine for a number of parts. Daves fitted a new tyre in it for me today.I like to work honestly and try to help as much as I can yet time after time I get scum fxxking me about.Getting ready for a 9-5 office job.Rant over !

That is really a bummer. Why dont people stick to their word? If something happens that everything changes, then an email takes seconds as does a phone call. grrrrrrrrrrr I have a similar thing over here on a local forum. Someone asks for help regarding a pool (ie its gone green) I offer help, never to hear from them again! I just dont bother anymore.

Steve

One of the joys of being in business Karl, I know what you mean about being messed about, but it seems to be the majority of people today. I rang a forum member about an item advertised at a price only to be told he had been offered a lot more so ok that was that. I was offered a Collie so I said I would buy it subject to a viewing 3 hours later no truck and no seller at the address when I went to view, no reply on phone no I spoke to her 2 hours before. All she needed was to send a txt to say " I changed my mind"n not difficult just good manners. The number of 60 owners that haven't turned up for parts is the best.Must have/ Can't get parts which I have in stock for peanuts I never hear from again once I have been out and got it off a breaker." I'll be there saturday" is a surefire way of never hearing from them again,
It happens in all businesses though, if you are a landlord boy, do you see the other side of people when they live in a house that's not theirs.
At the end of it its just consideration for others which is sadly missing these days.
Another rant to go with yours Karl!!

Andy

People are right knobs thats for sure. I always try and stick to a promise sometimes even if it means I'm worse off, but that's just me. End of the day your word is all you really have..

It's hard Steve when you have to deal with genuine nice people to just not bother.

I know business is business Andy but folk are that cut throat and I can deal with that fine. I just struggle with the fact I don't have the time to do what I do and then have wxxkers who let me run around getting ready to just fxxk you about!

Tony, that's how I like to work. I have paid more for an item than its worth just because I said I would buy it.

Well for what its worth Karl, I've always appreciated your honesty, help and support, and you get a big vote of thanks from me.

Guess there'll always be people who pi55 about - seems the internet has made this worse, especially e-blag - but there's still a lot of honest, genuinely good people out there.

Couldn't have said it better Tony.

I do feel sorry for people that have to "deal" with Joe Public on a daily basis. These type of things only seem to increase/get worse unfortunately........

I advertised a rare vehicle for sale a few years ago for sealed bids and was swamped with offers. Within 2 days, I had received about a dozen offers, from all over the world. I eventually accepted and offer from a Belgian chap for twice what I thought I'd get. During all this, an Australian gent, had been constantly harassing me to sell it to him, calling me from Sydney at all hours and wouldn't give in. He refused to put in a bid until the end so he could see what others had offered.

I told him I would sell to the highest offer under the sealed bid and I'd be glad to hear his offer. He didn't offer but waited until the bid closed.

2 days before the Belgian turned up to collect the vehicle, the Australian turned up at my office and asked what the winning bid was. I told him and he immediately said, I'll pay double that!. This was a considerable amount of money.

Too late I said I have already agreed with the Belgian...

"Do you have his money yet"? "No he has until close today to transfer funds" said I.

"I'll pay you double he repeated".... when I refused he got incredibly aggressive and tried to tell me that the deal wasn't done because the Belgian hadn't paid the money over.

He just couldn't comprehend that I had verbally agreed the deal and that was that!.

He eventually left after cursing and swearing.

When I finally met the Belgian, he turned out the be a High court judge for the EU!!

Still keep in touch regularly.

Exactly how I would and have worked time after time Lazz.

i thought it was just me that seems to think morals actually mean something.

Credit to you !

Well guys, all I can suggest is your reward for having to deal with low-life is knowing that you've done the right thing. Too many choose the easy and more profitable devious routes, but to be honest, they're not the ones getting business because they're trusted.

I dealt with Karl simply because he was recommended by so many on this forum. Strange really, because I've never met any of you guys (yet).

In life you have to take a chance occasionally and I took my chance on the recommendation of those who trust Karl. If he was a shark, then I wouldn't have.

So, the moral is, trust gets business, the word goes around. All the plebs are there still, and always will be, work around them, but stay straight.

This status wasn't to get a heads up from people but thanks anyway.

I have let people down on a few occasions just due to not getting things out fast enough. But I do always try and so the right thing.

i look at people with the (don't give a shxt attitude) who do what I do and they are doing far better in business than I prob ever will. I'd rarther stay small and work with the morals I was bought up with.

Totally agree.
I run two businesses (neither very well....lol) and I am fed up to the back teeth of always putting myself last. Or that's how it seems. Got a punter who rang today, my guys installed some xmas lights in my absence outside. I haven't been for a month cos laid up. Said to the lads, test lights fist, they did this in the box. Took about three hours to string them through the two trees. All connected up, and I texted her today to see if all was ok. Now bearing in mind I am the brains of the operation I said to them not to open the enclosure with the timer in as its a 'mare to set right after you do a manual override - they just ran an extension lead to test them then coupled into the power supply (away from the timer in a separate enclosure). Customer literally just rang complaining that they are flashing not static. There's a control unit, and once its set will recall the blink/flash/fade/static or whatever. Can only be set once they are lit. So all it takes is to walk to the base of the tree, click the clicker a few times till on correct setting. Apparently I should be going out tonight (on bl00dy crutches- she knows I won't be back working till Feb) to do it as its my job not the customer's......

Yesterday both of my Collies ended on ebay. I tweaked the reserves a little bit on Monday to stimulate bidding a bit. A guy who I had spoken to last week about the white one who seemed 100% straight sent me a nasty ebay message this morning. "You liar you made me lose it. You told me reserve was £**** and someone bid less and won it". I responded that 4/5 days after we spoke I lowered the reserve as was my prerogative, and had he bothered to check his watch list/the listing it clearly said this. Got another load of abuse back. I pointed out (politely) that seeing as he thought that the reserve was higher than it was, then surely had he bid what I had previously set the reserve at then he would have stood a better chance than any snipers. His response - "deliberately didn't bid as I didn't want to pay the reserve". Unbelievable.
Then.......(we need a drum-roll smiley) I start to deal with the aftermath of the black one. It missed reserve by £50. I'd previously had an offer (about 7 hours before end) of £50 above reserve but it was a complex deal and anyway I couldn't add a buy now or take it off because it was within 12 hours. Plus the buyer was in a different time zone - so he said he would try and bid and if he missed the end and it didn't sell he'd be in touch. I waited about an hour after the end and was inundated with derisory offers by message, some £3-400 lower than the last bid - and some of these "offers" were from bidders who had bid more when it was live!!! Cue a deep deep breath. Decided to list as a buy now with a high price but best offer facility. Actually wrote in the listing something along the lines of "look I've had loads of people messaging, it wasn't far away from reserve, so it's got a buy now plus offer, I will be making a decision by lunchtime Wednesday". Get a call from a local bloke - How much? Told him make offer, he refused. Wanted to view. Then told me he would bring cash full buy now price. Asked address etc, I was a bit coy as it was 11pm. 12am Mr time-zone sends me a best offer of what we agreed. Messages back and forth about payment method/holding car for him etc. He pressed the button about 230am this morning and then told me he'd sort deposit when he got in from work. I woke up late, about 8.45. No deposit. Messaged. Wrong email for paypal. So out of courtesy to the local guy I texted and said look its sold and deposit on way. 9.01am. He rings at 9.02am - "what is this text?" Explained position. He says fair do's and hangs up. Deposit arrives so all good. Half nine I start getting sh1tty texts from Mr Local - "you **** - you say no timewasters you wasted my time, you charlatan etc - I had already been to bank to draw out the money" etc. So apparently he has a £3k withdrawal limit on his card or his bank opened specially for him so he was could be back home with his wad, eating his cereal at 9.02am when I rang......

My p*** is still boiling, fed up of these utter ****heads. By contrast, the fella from other side of the world has been superb. So I join the rant.
Karl, I didn't bother recanting my woe earlier - you sounded stressed enough as it was, so cheers for this thread pal ;)

Spot on Karl, stay with it mate and sleep well at night. Money isn't everything, even if it's harder come by staying straight. You just have to tolerate the rest who mess you about. :icon-rolleyes:

PS I don't owe you any money do I?

It's terrible John.

Sometimes my heads in so many places when on the phone it's hard to shut down.

Tbh all the dxxks on eBay would are the buying bunch I have pretty much sorted. I can handle them. It's more the people selling who piss me off as they waste so much of my energy and time.

A 100 series engine went on eBay the other week. I need one for an 03 plate I have. A guy I know rang and said it was on there at 2 k buy it now. 20 min after it was listed I bought it. Rang the guys up who were selling it and all good.
The day after I gets a thing through eBay saying agree to not go through with the sale. Rang them up and they said it wasn't forsale anymore. Bla bla bla. Total prxxks!

Clive......... Lots of money. Want the bank details? :laughing-rolling:

So now I'm p*ssed off with you for having a 100 lololol!!
Wish I'd known - I got offered a cat c one the other week but it was too far gone for me to repair cost-effectively (can't weld cant paint). Which engine do you need?

Was it a diesel one you were offered John?

Ive got an 03 facelift that's a nice ornament in the corner of the garage

I'm writing up the advert for my Colorado at the moment...having to resist the urge to end with the phrase "Pisstakers will be ignored. Repeat offenders will be laughed at".

...just good manners.

They cost nothing but it is surprising how seldom you see them. My pet peeve - I get a number of emails from members and guests here which are just plain rude. One recent one was "WHY CAN'T I POST!". No "hello", "hi" etc, no "thank you", "regards", "cheers deers" nudda. I replied with a short lesson in manners and how to address a letter or email. He seemed quite pissed off and came back with a rant saying emails to unknown recipients did not need salutations. Huh? It also ended with "WHY CAN'T I POST!". A couple days later I got another email saying "WHY YOU IGNORING ME?". Oddly, not heard back from him. /rant.

I still think most people are genuine thought - just seem to find a lot of self-centered cnuts. (Dyslexics will gasp at that!)
