I'm fabricating a slider for my National Luna fridge and I'm wondering if it's safe to turn it upside down to more easily get a pattern of the mounting holes on it's base.

Any advice welcome....

Can't imagine it would do any harm as the refrigerant system is sealed. I've even heard of this being a fix on some caravan fridges if they start running poorly. http://caravanchannel.proboards.com/thread/4306/fridge-working-turn-upside

I use a small portable freezer in the caravan, in addition to the onboard fridge, and found it upside down on the caravan floor one year when we got to Scotland after a securing strap broke and it fell off the bench seat. Looked at the instruction book and all it advised was letting the unit sit for a couple of hours after transportation to allow the refrigerant to settle. Switched it on later and it was fine and has been fine since.

I've also heard of the "let it stand to allow all the magic juice to flow back down" after transporting a fridge flat.

A heating and refrigeration engineer I worked with a long time ago told me the same about 'letting the magic juice flow down' also a quick fix if the fridge isn't working properly, turn over then back and let it settle.

If some courier crowd delivered it to you, do you really think they could read the 'this way up stickers' let alone bother to follow the advice.

Won't do it a bit of harm, as all the above sayjust put it the right way up for at least a couple of hoiurs before you turn it on.

Yes I do.

Glad I waited!! Received these this morning...

From National Luna...
Your fridge MUST NOT be inverted.
It can be tilted up to 35 degrees in any direction or put on one of it's sides.
You are able to tilt the fridge so that the compressor area is at the top. The fridge will then be on it's left side.

From APB Trading...
Thank you for your enquiry. It is best not to – on the side is ok.

In the words of Mandy Rice Davies "They would say that wouldn't they" National Luna will cover themselves in case of any problems plus they say MUST NOT be inverted and then say best not to. I think if you want to turn it over to take measurements it would be quite safe to do so.

National Luna did not say both underlined statements.

I'll go along with the manufacturer's advice.

I think they did in their sign off,

"

Or was that last bit added by yourself?

I think they did in their sign off,

Nope, you didn't read it correctly.......

You put the two statements together intimating that both came from the one source.

But in fact National Luna said "Your fridge MUST NOT be inverted"

and APB Trading said "best not to"

See my post above....

 You're absolutely right, I thought they were from the same source. Mea Culpa.

Well would you Adam and Eve it!
At the start of a 2 week holiday with the caravan in Scotland in (rare) 25deg heat recently, discovered that the fridge didn't work! So disconnected the gas and electric, got it outside and left it upside down for a hour but still no good on re-install.
Thought I'd give it one more go again when back home but this time left it for 24hours in addition to tapping the pipes and cooling matrix on the back gently with a piece of wood periodically. Back on it's feet, reconnected and it now works better than it ever has!:icon-biggrin: Something to do with re-distribution of crystals formed in the ammonia coolant which settle out when the fridge isn't used for long periods??
