I've just been lectured by a couple of our guardians of the law for parking on a double yellow in a side road outside a Sainsburys store.
(I'm pretty sure it's not a public road, there is no name at the end of the road, and no name on the map either, I think it's part of Sainsburys)
I came out of the store just as they got their books out, "Is this your car SIR" :icon-rolleyes: "Yes" I said, "This is a no waiting area, you are blocking the road" :icon-surprised: I wasn't, but you don't argue at a time like that do you?
I thought at the time they were a bit officious in their manner (you know the sort of thing, "Didn't you see the No Stopping sign, that could have been a child SIR")
After they so so kindly let me go with a flea in my ear I saw why they were pissed off, when I pulled onto the main road their car was partially blocking the road because it had just had it's front ripped off by a lorry, Judging by the position of the lorry and car I would say the police car had pulled out in front of it.
No wonder they were upset. They then went on to another car on the double yellow. I suppose someone's got to suffer.
I didn't think it wise to stop and take a picture. :icon-wink:

Pity u didn't take a pic, I would have done!
As an aside, near where I live there is a police car that regularly stops (with his ANPR thing running I think) , half on & half off the carriage way, about 10m in front of a 'clear way' sign.

about a fortnight ago, I stopped and asked the officer what the sign meant, he replied ' clear way, no stopping sir'.

i said nothing, just got In my van & drove off.

havnt seen him parked there since!

I have continual problems with people parking on the continuous line across the front of my drive and blocking me in (there are parking bays either side of it). After hours when the council enforcement peeps are off I ring the police. They do feck all but one said I should continue to report it so there was a log of complaints. So, a while back I was blocked in by a discovery 3. I went to get the number when I realised the driver was in the front seat, so I went round to her side of the car to talk to her, at which point she set off and ran me over!! I went after her and got her number and reported it to the police.

The other day I got some paperwork through from her insurance company. On it, a police officer was quoted as saying I was being 'a bit of a nuisance' about the parking! A bit of a fecking nuisance!! about people blocking me in my own drive!!!

I have to say, I have a lot of dealing with the police in my work, and I have had a few dealings with them out of work, sometimes on the wrong side and the majority of the time I find the interaction less than satisfactory!

I know they do a difficult job and all that, and most of the people they come into contact with are twats (I know because I also meet lots of them in my work as well) but I do think a lot of the time it's a difficult job done badly. A lot of time, the abusive assholes seem to get treated better than the generally law abiding public!!

I try to be positive about the police to my kids, but it's a struggle sometimes.

As far as I know the Police have to move a vehicle that's blocking you ON your drive because of a possible emergency situation, i.e. if you need to leave in a hurry, but not if you want to get ON to your drive.
It happened to me once. My mother was ill, I don't know for sure if they HAD to or if they were just being helpful.

I can top that for twa!ts.

I was almost arrested by a newly 'qualified' Garda in Ireland; for what you ask? Well he was trying (illegally) to seize animals from an owner and I was there in a professional capacity.
I eventually got an apology from his Super and his actions cost the state several thousand Euro in costs.

TBH I am nearly 40, I have never once had an interaction with a member of law enforcement that was to my benefit, not necessarily because I had done anything wrong either. They generally irritate situations and make them worse.

They are either totally ineffectual or officious little pr1cks/Napoleons whatever country you are in.

Last year two idiot Garda rolled their squad car while chasing a local young lad in his car. Personally I was delighted for them.

Though you should count yourselves lucky in the UK, our police are truly above the law. Less than 1% of complaints against them have been investigated to a conclusion in about the last 10 years. Now that is a very scary statistic in the supposed 'free world'.

When I was young I was as mad as a meat axe and was a little bit offside with our good traffic officers but I have learnt abit more since then and find that if you tell a good heart rending story it brings tears to their eyes and they go away thinking about what a tough life you lead. It's worked so far.

We have another well known saying in NZ.Bullshit baffles brains.

Most of them must have had bad attitude training. " Do you know why I stopped you Sir? ". That's a bad start to a conversation. Much more acceptable to just say " I stopped you because you were driving 40 mph in a 30 mph limit " for example.

Agreed, I was once asked "do you know the speed limit on British Motorways?":icon-rolleyes:

Hardly likely to say "no" was I?

I was doing 125mph:whistle:, so I expected a little sarcasm, oh to be young...

That section of the road where the incident took place is like a dual carriageway so all the traffic on that side of the road is moving in the same direction, so I can't figure out how that side of the Police car hit that side of the bus.

PS I like the grinning traffic warden.

ive had run ins with my fair share of rule crazy, megalomaniac cops over the years but an encounter with the "policia local" in a nearby town some years ago takes the biscuit.I had just (inadvertently)driven the wrong way down a one way street - the no entry sign was on a ten foot pole ,so invisible if you weren't looking for it.
As i drove out the other end the cops ( the ploicia local in Spain are basically armed traffic wardens) spotted me & gave me the full maiami vice - flashing lights , siren & even the P.A. on their car - (RED AUDI, RED AUDI PULL OVER!!!) oh feck i thought this is it .A after showing the cars paperwork & getting a ticking off for the no entry business the younger cop who kept his hand on the butt of his pistol all the time decided that my Spanish plated RHD car was a "danger to other motorists"& so it was going to be impounded & radioed for a tow truck! needless to say an argument ensued with lots of shouting & hand gestures resolved by robocops older & wiser partner who managed to persuade his college to let me go - mainly by getting his mate by the arm & leading him to the passenger seat of the cop car.

Yep, it's best not to argue with them . . . . . . especially when they carry guns.

No, that's because they're hoping you'll cough to something apart from what they're pulling you for. Extra to fill the coffers with.
