I been trying to figure out some issue my sister has been having with her 80 series. It had the head done a few month ago and i been finding a few loss wires/plugs on the left side of the engine bay. Also the second battery is not charging so im trying to troubleshoot the duel battery system the name on it says ingram

Ingram duel battery system & some unpluged wires

Looks to me you have several items needing attention from the photos (which only tell part of the story). A word of caution, disconnect ALL your batteries before working on this and only if you feel competent to do so.

Firstly I can't see from the photo if the solenoid shown is fixed down or just floating about. If not, it needs fixing down with plenty of space between the terminals and any metalwork/bodywork.

Secondly, there seems to be a big cable missing from the large bolt terminal on the solenoid. This should be fairly obvious to find and reconnect after tracing where it goes, making sure it hasn't come to any harm, got damaged insulation etc.

Thirdly, the black link wire with yellow terminals at the ends looks poorly crimped into the yellow terminals. This is untidy at best and may be a poor connection at worst. It needs replacing withs properly made link with correctly fitting and crimped terminals.

If any of this is beyond what you are happy with, seek the help of someone like an auto electrician or at least someone who knows safe electrical practice. Apologies but this HAS to be done safely and being new here I don't know your capabilities.

Lastly, this may not be the whole picture here.

Good luck with it but above all ensure safety.

Regards

Richard

Difficult to make out quite what's going on there but that looks more like the inlet heater solenoid under the driver's side battery. There is no split charge system on an 80. Really hard to see where you are working though. Is this a petrol? They only have one battery and a second might have been put in. There are loads of plugs on all 80s that aren't connected. I have a GS which comes without things like ABS. There are loose plugs all over the place. Your pictures have come out huge for some reason so it's not quite clear where about all this gubbins is. A little more detail please and we'll get onto it for you.

Looks like a battery isolater relay. Not OE and nothing to do with the air intake heater I don't think, even if it is a 24 valve diesel. As said, very difficult to picture where abouts in the engine bay it is situated. Can't make out what the alloy casing is in the top right of the second pic. The other plugs lying around unconnected do look OE.

Agree TP. Not OEM fitment, but from its location I was thinking it might have been a replacement at some point

My thoughts in my earlier post were that this was an add on second (leisure type) battery charging system for auxiliaries.

Agreed it looks just like the Nat Lunar or T Max ones, but it might be nothing to do with the second battery. There could have been a third battery or maybe something to do with towing for a fridge supply in a caravan. We don't know enough yet. It might be a 24v start converted to 12v and the second battery is nor for leisure like mine.

I guess it's possible everything could have been disconnected for the head work, assuming the head was removed but why not finish the job? One of my pet hates is messy/unfinished/untidy wiring, it bugs me to death but maybe that's just me being over picky!

Not on your own there TP. I found all sorts when I swapped my gearbox the other week. The clutch people left all sorts out and put washers where there weren't any originally etc. Grrr LC OCD I'm afraid.

Mike, I suggest you post up some details of the 80, the year, fuel, model, and to be sure, the Vin of the vehicle off the bulkhead plate.

The guys that have responded are the most knowledgeable on the 24 Volt starting system on these trucks, and with some added data, such as whether it's a 12 or 24 valve model, I think they'll help you get this sorted.

Good luck...

That looks like a typical Cole Hershee (check spelling?) solenoid from a third party supplier for a split charger, the yellow could be connected so the battery only connects when powered by a controller or to the charging circuit once the engine starts, other side to earth to via the mounting plate. To the left of the solenoid shows what appears to be arcing damage to the bodywork? The red cable connected to the opposite stud (out of sight) is most likely touching the body?

Rest of plugs appear to be OE, need more info on vehicle but the silver canister mounted on it's side apears to be stock, perhaps ignition module for petrol car? Further right, is that an evaporator for an LPG conversion? Also even further right is a crimp on terminal (Blue) to earth, you need to be careful in there and as mentioned, if you have little knowledge of the sparky stuff you could cause a fire.

Regards

Dave
