I am considering buying a hzj79.
Seller is telling me that is has permanent AWD with the option of traditional 4x4?

Is this really a thing? Would be really cool...!
It is a 2011 model
It has VIN number

It could of had a conversion with a 100 or 80 series permanent 4x4 transfer case. The external size and shape is near identical to the pre 2016 J7 transfer case with the manual transmission from the 79 being the same as the petrol and turbo diesel gearboxes from the 80 and 100 series. In Australia its more common to to convert the permanent 4x4 transfer case to part time with kits as the permanent 4x4 solid axle Land Cruisers did get extra front axle spline and diff wear.

After some more pictures I am pretty sure it is an import from the middle east somewhere

Yes I would agree that looks like a middle east car. I wonder if the seller is simply looking at the hub configuration and doesn’t understand? Hub has auto and lock options. My guess would be it is standard transmission.
