Do I remove and keep the calipers upside-down when replacing brake fluid?

ABS is electric when it sees one wheel lock up it reduces braking on all 4 to prevent you losing traction .

    1FZ 80 failed on emissions

I think youve got two people who dont know how to use the tester and are more interested in computers than mechanics . I would just book it into a garage 10 miles away and tell them you will have to wait there until you can drive home , that way the test should be done while the engine is still...

Tyre test, an interesting alternative at an attractive price.

Checked the mrs tyres earlier today and it left me wondering when i bought the Toyo open country MT , they were on my 90 , and then my 80 and must be over 2 years on her truck . They look a year old ! For budget RoadX RX Quest looks interesting

Do I remove and keep the calipers upside-down when replacing brake fluid?

Long time ago I decided to replace brake fluid on a 90 series , i just opened all the bleed nipples until they dripped and kept topping up the reservoir until the full bottle was gone . Then bled like usual .

Quick and easy temporary rust preventative

I can't find much info other than sellers spiel but it occurred to me that it would be a great step one to baselining , a few less snapped bolts .

    1FZ 80 failed on emissions

So take it to a garage that doesn't advertise for a test , the good ones don't need a website because local word of mouth keeps them to busy as it is .

    1FZ 80 failed on emissions

Not sure it still applies but in the early days of all this save the planet nonsense just making sure the engine was full up to heat before the test could turn a fail into a pass .

Original Half moon valve cover seal - doesn't fit new head

What Are the Most Essential Upgrades for an 80 Series Used in Overlanding?

Brand new it could take you for a couple of laps of the globe so "need" would be whatever you might take for an extended camping trip . Catch 22 of the 80 series being so well built is that parts that would probably be replaced at least 3 times in the last 30 years were it any other vehicle are...

    Dead alternator or not ?

Took it off clean up connections replaced it and hurray no flickering dash lights - for 1 mile . Stopped to visit someone for half hour and when I got back in the truck found a heap of solid dash lights and batteries are not charging , Fusible link at battery looked ok but I cleaned it up...

VDJ 76 occasionally goes into limp mode under full acceleration

well I don’t know your engine at all but the only other thing I can think of is a lazy fuel compensator , and modern engines being all digital I doubt you have one . Spill control valve ?
  20. Shayne

VDJ 76 occasionally goes into limp mode under full acceleration

Your problem brings to my mind the fuel cutoff limp if you over boost a 1KZ-TE . A Toyota safety feature that probably lives on

How to put a fan blade through the radiator

I wasn’t weak as a young man and I was pinned to the deck of a boat feeling crushed for perhaps a second that felt like an eternity when a lump of water came over the bow . Who is doing what maintenance today?

Surely the 80’s alternator bolt should be tapered at the end to help line things up when putting it back in ? Mine has now after an hour of wiggling and failing to line up the holes 1 minute with a bench grinder and 1 minute wiggling it’s in .

Not finding genuine knuckle studs anywhere ?

Because they never sheared I guess I’ve got 3 good ones to support the aftermarket stud until genuine turn up . On the bright side driving a 30 year old Pajero while I wait for delivery refreshes my respect for my 28 year old Cruiser which feels tight and precise by comparison .

Not finding genuine knuckle studs anywhere ?

Thanks Lorin but I meant soon like I’ve lost one and the 3 others had wound themselves off a way so it’s a wonder they never sheared given the Manx TT course is no motorway . Diesel engines at altitude - 1HZ

My thinking is simply that your filter housing and pipe work will all be warm from engine heat so a bonnet scoop and top mount might just make the most of what little oxygen there is . Pointless at lower altitudes im sure . Just a theory .

    Abs sensor issue

So you have a short draining the battery , could be anywhere but but tow socket and rear bumper lights are common culprits for a multitude of electrical gremlins in the 90 series . For me the alternator would be third on the list , again for corrosion causing poor contact .
  38. Shayne

    Abs sensor issue

A bad earth can cause the strangest of light displays on the dash and the rear lights exposed as they are behind the bumper are prone to corrosion , just removing the bulbs might give you a clue . When the tow socket corrodes inside it does the same because it hooks into the main wiring loom ...

  40. Shayne

    Abs sensor issue

My guess would be it’s nothing to do with the sensor which is now fixed and simply coincidence . Bad earth somewhere , corrosion of taillights and tow socket are typically prime suspect .

Cigar lighter bulb circuit, switched + turns to ground when key ignition off, why?

I’ve no idea at the why but when I fried my ciggy lighter it took out the interior lights and central locking if I remember correctly . “Dome” fuse blew so I guess they all connected somehow ?

    LBJ failure driving home.

LBJ failure is a known weakness discussed many times over the years on here and so I'd say trying to estimate by mileage when its time to replace is a lost cause . If i remember correctly , Beau was a good bit over 200k miles on originals when he investigated and found no reason to replace ...

    LBJ failure driving home.

Most garages use a local motor factor for parts when available for a quick turnaround and I would guess the motor factors only supply T.U.V approved stock . Direct from China stuff sells on ebay for much cheaper because T,U,V is not mandatory .
