    A little weeding during Lockdown . . .

ha ha ha its like MAN v TREE ! Personally I'd have shaped it into a stump chair, or in that case a stump throne..... but well done for not giving up.

    Quick Drain sump plugs

Yes but a different brand/ design. If your into incredibly serious of roading and you got unlucky you'll knock it, but I think for most of us they wont ever come close to being knocked. I guess the way to find out if to look at the bottom of your sump, ifs its dented and has scratch marks on it...

    Crap night at work!

Thats a cracking photo @Jake the Peg . It's got a real atmosphere . My dad worked on the oil rigs in his younger days. If i'm honest there's a part of me that wishes i'd gone out and worked on them rather than doing an office job, but then i'm sure its a tough life and when people talk about...

    quad bikes and compact tractors..

Thanks @flint I did look into a contractor, but over the next 20 years of living here it's better to buy a compact tractor. We also want the lifestyle of doing our own work, and being able to put the kids and BBQ stuff into a trailer and drive up to the top of the field on a summers evening. The...

    quad bikes and compact tractors..

Hi Guys, Just wondered if anyone has any experience of Solis tractors? There doesn't seem to be a huge market for second hand compact tractors and the small number of second hand tractors that are for sale seem to retain their value very well. A lot of the second hand Kubotas and John Deeres...

    Effin hippies.

The problem is that their value is so much less than their cost. So if you've spent a fortune doing it up with all sorts of mods you'll prob find that you'll still only be able to sell it for the standard price..... unless you can find that one person. I dread to think how much our 105 is...

    Dehumidifier

I kept a few Unibond 360's in the truck for the last couple winters to keep moisture at bay. They collected a good few litres over the winter. Not sure how much difference it actually makes, but my thinking was it certainly can't hurt to keep the moisture levels down.

    Roof tent choice

Yeah they are big @Shayne . I think they are aimed at the family roof tent market. We'll be squeezing in 2 adults and 2 kids (assuming we ever get out of lockdown...) Certainly it would be more than the 2 of us need. But like everything I guess it comes down to personal choice. They do a Mini...

    Roof tent choice

Yes you can, although its not like in my old Hannibal where there was loads of room to leave bedding. We can leave a double duvet, the boys small sleeping bags, and a few pillows in there but it takes a bit of standing on to close. One of my few criticism's would be that if they had allowed...

    Roof tent choice

Sorry @Adrianlle I started typing a response 3 times over the weekend before being interrupted by the wife! We can put the roof tent up in less than 5 minutes - probably longer than a Skycamp but i've have no problem putting it up and down for an hours siesta. We went for the X-cover because the...

    quad bikes and compact tractors..

Thanks Mike, its a really good point which I hadn't really thought about because I assumed it would be overkill. I'll have a look at prices. I'm very fosuced on safety and there seems to be a lot of concern about rolling quads which I wasn't aware of, and I note @Grimbo point about wearing a...

    Roof tent choice

I sat in one at the overland show when we were looking at iKampers (we went for the Xcover in the end). They are more than capable of being sat up in, and you can lean your back against the poles in the middle if you wish, although realistically you'll prob be sitting up or lying down. With the...

Does anyone know anything about quad bikes?

Also, As a baseline what sort of hours/ milage is considered a lot? I see a few with 1000 hrs and 10,000km on them, Is this a lot or have they got a lot more life in them (with the obvious caveats about servicing etc).

Does anyone know anything about quad bikes?

Thanks all, really appreciate that. Some good food for thought. We are in North Devon, near Woolacombe/ Croyde. We've got 21 acres but its mostly steep woodland and sloping soggy scrubland, so it definitely needs a 4x4 something rather than just a sit on mower. The people here before us had a...

We've just moved to North Devon and we need a quad bike for mowing the grass/ moving thinks in a trailer/ and generally larking around on! Introducing Lilly Bird

When we first brought our 105 we had an intermittent fault that only seem to occur on misty English mornings where various dash lights would flicker on for a few seconds and then go off. Engine didn't miss a beat so i ignored it. It finally came to a head in northern Kenya when it did the same...

Hi Pat, Welcome to the club. I've had a look through my photos but I can't find a photo with just the wheel carriers open i'm afraid. The truck is in the barn and out of action at the moment, but i'll pull her out in the spring and get a photo for you. (remind me in a few months time) So far...

The CTEK MSX 7.0 died today after 8 years of good and pretty much continuous service. Probably going to replace it with the same one because it has served me so well, but just thought i'd put it out there and see if anyone has a better recommendation, and why? Thoughts? oh and Happy New Year !

Front brake line bolt shear off

All the usuay tricks before you do anything - spray it with an anti sieve several times to really get it to soak in/ give it a few wacks with a hammer/ put some heat on it. Kilometer dial (instead of miles dial) for my odometer

Hi Frank, If you have found someone who can change out the dial in the meter assembly then your best bet is to go to this website https://toyota-general.epc-data.com/land_cruiser/ and select your Land Cruiser, where you'll be able to find the part number for your speedometer assambly. It'll...

Kilometer dial (instead of miles dial) for my odometer

Hi Franky, out of interest, why can't you use the blue numbers to gauge your speed? Changing out the console is going to be an expensive thing to do, and I think it is unlikely (although I might be wrong) that you will be able to just change the speed dial N

    Best folding camping chairs

We've used a few but the best for us are the Helinox chairs, they're more 'slouchable' than most, but they also pack down small which is a important for us beause there are 4 of us. I think it depends a lot on what you need out of the chair, but comfort is definitely the top priority.

Clunk from the back when turning

Also check your drop links. I had a similar issue on the ol' Ford Focus which after much cawling around under the car and head scratching turned out to be a sheered drop link which was causing a knocking/groaning type noise on corners and bumps. Just a thought....

Diesel Heater - Where to put it!

@Andy could you post a pic of your hot air ducting set-up? I'd be interested to see how you've done it. I like the idea of using a rubber glove to cover the combustion inlet and exhaust - way more low tech then my idea and probably way more effective!

Diesel Heater - Where to put it!

Here you go @Rosy So it sits in that little space on the drivers side. The box came off ebay i think and is specifically made for the ebspacher. The side comes off to mount the heater inside, then I bolted it through the floor and sealed it up. Needed to do a bit of work on the back side to...

Diesel Heater - Where to put it!

I mounted mine under the truck in a waterproof box. Basically because there is no room left in the truck, and we are running the hot air into the roof tent so it made sense to keep everything outside the truck. While we are driving it is sealed enough to avoid water ingress from puddles/ spray...
