Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

:) A mechanic friend giving me the same advice via a text message said: ".........Verses staring at the oil pressure gauge for eternity followed by a potentially ruined weekend and a 2k bill"

Agree, location of seals being a very valid point - decision made, lump out

Good info and guidance above, cheers. Managed to get a couple of hours on it last night - swapped out shells 1 to 4, not terrifying news but enough for me to think I need to pull the engine and change the mains? - opinions welcomed: Shells 1 to 4 - No1 (front of engine) to the right, right...

Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

Yes Dave, Ive done mains before plenty of times on other engines that have been in situ (mainly Rover V8) - will give this one my best shot, if it has to come out then Im going for a rebuild. The research Ive done seems to point at its much easier to do the mains when the lump is out but...

Interesting post Dave - I must read Mud more often, usually I only end up there after a google search. Yes, I changed my BEB's about 6 years ago when I first got it with some from Milners - I didnt change the mains though. Up until last Sunday I was always pleased with the oil pressure, at...

Im actually keen not to have telemetrics - Im hoping I can rely on mine being sensible, dont want to take all the fun out of it, ultimately she will be working until Thursday just to keep the thing running! Civic is a good call.

Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

Thats the next challenge Clive - as much as I read its generally considered you cant change the mains in situ due to the cradle - Ive done them before on Rover v8's in situ and the Max Ellery hand book says it can be done on the 1hdt - I will investigate at the time and see it it can be winged!

Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

The last playday of the year could have cost dear!................ Normal playday in the main, follow my leader and all that, started to get a little challenging and pushing each other harder, I ended up in the water - up over the bonnet, turns out it was also mud 3/4 up the 37" tyres - lockers...

    Parasitic Battery Drain

Thanks for the replys guys, good info - work has got in the way and stopped me looking again, should be on it soon. I do always pair to the same make and model battery, Ive replaced with a brand new pair and the draw is still the same. Will report back soon!

    Parasitic Battery Drain

Thoughts appreciated on this little issue I am having, realised following very dead batteries after just a week of standing: I'm getting 0.45amp draw with ignition off. I pulled all fuses (and relays) one by one to see if I could find the circuit - but nothing. The winches and driving...

    New Tires Needed Advice Appreciated

I mentioned similar in another thread: I have Maxxis Trepadors in ø37" - a friend has BFG on his Patrol at ø35" I personally rate the BFG to be 95% as good as the Treps and a lot less to buy. Also, they are radial, the treps are bias and flat spot overnight - next time Im going BFG

    Gearbox swap, info please

I wouldn't buy a manual "normal" road going car ever again - the way traffic is these days manuals are just a PITA - my last 6 cars have been auto, 4 of them with "TipTronic" or what ever you want to call it. My current E Class Merc even has "flappy paddles" - do I use them? Nope - the computer...

    79 / 105 Hubs on an 80?

Hi Dave, If you ever have the front hub stripped down I would be REALLY interested in some measurements of the spindle and bearing diameters. As much as I can make out on the subject, the 105 hub is bigger with m10 bolts as standard along with bigger locating dowels, but this does mean the...

Odds on that David Bowyer will sell without a hook. Why dont you just cut one off if not needed? - just use heavy duty electrical shrink wrap or a naked flame to stop fraying ends?

I joined today via facebook (promptly moved onto Instagram) - what a way to raise the bigoted Land-Rover boys from the depths - a few comments of how many engines, gearboxes, diffs etc did that take in a LR and the classic Aussie saying of If you want to go offroading take a landrover, if you...

    Stub axle upgrade ...

Ive run both bearing and bush type - from a off road perspective, for me, the bush is hardier, especially if you are unlucky enough to get water ingress.

Advice from the experts here please.

I love my Cruiser but I will admit that there is a place in my heart for a 4.2 Patrol as well - a good friend of mine has one, its a good motor. Both having pros and cons - a hybrid of the two would be an epic tool.

    79 / 105 Hubs on an 80?

The front drive flange / hub bolts are driving me insane - usually the offside short side. Its not quite LandRover unreliability but its always at the back of my mind when the loud pedal is pressed. I am aware its symtamatic of low gearing, RCV CV's, 37" Tyres etc but I would like to remove /...

    Dead battery or alternator?

I have no experience in the 100 - but I have done 150 miles in the 80 series 4.2 diesel when the alternator failed and it still started fine after. Certainly on the 80 power draw isnt great, a few relays and the like but nothing significant.

    BEB done

Thats not as bad a price as I thought, mine are the Milner ones as well and I am a little paranoid about them, although they have been in for five years. I suspect mine had already been changed, I checked the bolts to be in tolerance and they were but I will be renewing on the next change...

    New rear diff lock actuator

Good call on getting a new motor, in the past I've faffed around re-sticking on magnets to stripping down and rebuilding old ones - which can be a right pain in the butt getting the "clocking" right but they have all had a limited life. The old knackered ones eventually broke me and I fitted...
