I successfully booked a camping ticket on Wednesday evening.

Hello! Cross continental traveller, looking for first Land Cruiser purchase advice.

Welcome Dan, sounds like a great trip in the fiesta. The Adventure Overland Show is this weekend, it’ll most likely be the biggest gathering of all types of Land Cruisers in one place, in the UK. Book a ticket and come and chat Land Cruisers with the guys and girls on the stand, it’ll be the...

Roof tent for sale - Autohome Columbus Variant Medium XL

Hi is a good friend, known each other since childhood. I trust him, we’re similar and I know he’ll look after it. We’ve camped together many times over recent years as family units, so he knows the truck. It’s better it gets used than stand for 18 months. The front recovery eyes are from Oz...

Roof tent for sale - Autohome Columbus Variant Medium XL

Not me sadly, no outings in the Cruiser planned for 2020, lockdown and family circumstances have put a hold on Cruiser activities. However, the Cruiser is fresh out of extended winter hibernation, and has gone on its holidays without us! A good friends tow vehicle needs an engine rebuild, which...

Roof tent for sale - Autohome Columbus Variant Medium XL

For sale is my Autohome Columbus Variant Medium XL hardshell roof tent. Its the special order XL model, so its 2.3m long which is great for taller campers, and the medium size, so its 1.45m wide. This gives great internal space and is the perfect size for a Land Cruiser. I bought the tent...

    Brake hose replacement questions

45psi, that’ll knacker it! I always use to lower the tyre pressure in the tyre used to pressurise the Gunson for that reason. As you say the Sealey one is good for that reason, you can pressurise to just enough to do the job and leave it at that, reducing the risk of over pressurising the brake...

    Brake hose replacement questions

Hi Nick, I used a Gunsons Eezibleed for years, but I now use a larger Sealey kit instead. Getting the Gunsons to seal on some master cylinders was the tricky bit (always use rags underneath the master cylinder to catch any leaks, keep the brake fluid off of the paint as it’s a paint stripper!)...

Newbie here with a simple question if I may.

There are kits available to use with a drill to cut the oxidised outer surface of the headlights back to a clear finish, which can be done with the headlight still fitted. One example...

    80/105 question

Indeed....my Oz market 105 is a petrol auto, with AC (it can get a little hot in Oz at times) but it does have wind up windows. Chris, clearly we've never met! The 4.5 petrol is similar to the 4.5 in the 80, but not the same. The 80 has a distributor, the 105 has coil packs, so there are...

6 year old BFG all-terrains cracking

Andy, I had exactly the same happen to my BFG ATs at approximately 7 years. It gradually got worse and I removed the tyres at age 10 due to heavy cracking around the sidewall joint to the tread and also between the tread blocks to a lesser degree. Towards the end I was concerned that the tread...

    Snake 4x4 rear bumpers

No experience with this bumper manufacturer, but the light units look set in a bit far from the corners IMO. It’s best for lights to be as near to the corners as practically possible, so clear directional signals are made, and the lights give an indication as to the width of the vehicle...

Wanda has these heavy duty red front recovery points that FNB 4WD made in Oz. They shouldn’t be too difficult for someone to fabricate.

    1992 FZJ80 with the 1FZFE: Daily Driver + Tourer

Hi Ed, at that price it’s got to be worth a look. If it turns out to be worth buying, but the economy turns out to be an issue, would an LPG and valve lube kit be an option? There should be plenty of $ left in the kitty at that price, to pay for a lot of fuel or an LPG kit. Manual 80s over...

    Advice on synthetic rope fairleads

Back when I used to use a winch more often I always thought a camera watching the winch drum, that the driver could see whilst sitting in the drivers seat, would have been very useful. That way the driver would be able to see when the rope was winding on unevenly and building up to a dangerous...

End of diesel overland travelling in Europe.

I totally disagree with the expansion and I don’t think the general public are aware of its implications on them. Plus the Mayor of London wants to bring the implementation date forward! As far as I’m concerned the Mayor can do what he wants in central London, but expansion to the north and...

remove alternator 105 series 1hz deisal

You’re probably sorted by now, but when I replaced the alternator on my FZJ105 it was clear that it wouldn’t come out of the top or bottom of the engine bay, so I took it out the side. The 105 has a plastic wheel arch liner that is very easy to remove (it’s in two parts), so I removed this and...

Camp Kitchen + Draws for 120 series

Well remembered Nick, I do still have the Drifta kitchen and drawer unit. I don’t know if it will fit in a 120, as I don’t know how the boot space compares to an 80. I’m in two minds as to keep it for future use or to sell.......but everything has a price.

    105. Shame it's a petrol (me like)

Looks a very nice example, and not something that comes up for sale very often. If the petrol engine doesn’t suit a buyers intended use, and an LPG install (with flashlube) is not desired, a diesel engine conversion could be done. Install a 1HD-t from an 80, rust proof it, and it’ll be a...

Swap dash clocks - speedo etc

There’s no need to swap the entire clock set, source a secondhand clock set, with a working timing belt light reset mechanism, and swap the parts on to yours. I’d this on mine many years ago. The rest mechanism is very fragile, push it hard and it will break. Not a difficult job, just a...

    Lincomb meets 2018

Sounds like I missed a great meet and an excellent turn out of trucks judging by the pics, plus the chance to meet Clive. The resourcefulness of the Land Cruiser owners rescues a weekend from failure and turns it into a success. Well done Trevor and all involved.

Episode 1 of 'What's wrong with my LandCruiser?'

Hi Shaun, how does the 80 drive with the new oil in the gearbox? Re the front axle, it may be an idea to see if you can get your hands on a good secondhand axle that could be swapped in, in place of yours. With a full axle rebuild on the cards and possibly a diff rebuild, it could fix a few of...

80 Series Arm rest - ideas wanted

Hi Jurgen, I never had the need to remove the armrest so I don't know how it was mounted, it does look like one bolt passing into the seat, but what its screwed into I have no idea. There is a post earlier in the thread where Bill suspects the armrest may have originated from a Range Rover, a...

    A little excitement this morning.

Last new years eve there was a hell of a party going on in the rented house that backs on to my parents property, people were still arriving at 02:30 on new years day, dumping their cars over peoples driveways and blocking all of the side roads. At 03:33, just as my dad was climbing the stairs...

    Goodwinch top company

Agreed. I've had a couple of winches from David at Goodwinch and they have done sterling service for many years. Goodwinch give great advice and the aftersales service is excellent, when you want to uprate or improve the winch or accessories. I've always fancied doing David's winching course...

    Double roof top tents

I've seen them with one opening over the back and the other opening over the front, although I'm not sure how easy it would be to fold the front one down with the bonnet in the way, but I'm sure the people that have this set up have the process all ironed out.

    O2 and MAF sensors.

As Gary has rightly said, my Oz spec 105 has no O2 sensor or cats. The Oz market at that time must have had lower emmison requirements for new vehicles, you can understand it as emmison electronics adds more to go wrong. The 105 comes from Toyotas rugged side of the range, which is meant for...
