    My 'bargain' 24v

215/80x16,that's criminal!:eusa-naughty: Wouldnt of thought at's like GG's were gonna be made illegal, have heard rumours about more aggressive, proper noisy stuff, but the way this country is going I cant say I'd be surprised. Ebay at2's-...

    My 'bargain' 24v

Ive been thinking about big steels lately,10j's would be cool! :icon-cool: I do like the standard wheel though. Ive always been a big BFG fan but have had a few sets of GG's (at and at2) on other vehicles in the last few years, and Im impressed, converted even? I think they're a little softer...

    New SS Zorst

Yep,I'm liking that too! There does seem to be lots of firms offering custom built stainless exhausts these days, some of them are right cowboys,in fact there's probably 3or4 within a mile of my house, yet my bro travelled 400 miles last week (each way) to have one made for one of his cars.

Use of bow shackles when setting a winch line

Wise words Chris! My old Disco was more suited to recovery work than it was as a challenge truck which seemed to attract the boys with 'all the gear, and no idea'. 'can you just pull me out a minute mate?' Im happy to help anyone but it does get on your tits when you spend all day dragging out...

Use of bow shackles when setting a winch line

Joining strops with a shackle is not good for snatch recovery? If either strop lets go,the shackle will end up flying through the air? Trouble is the only other way is to put the strops through one another, this generally ends in them not coming apart again easily. Best to use one the right...

Use of bow shackles when setting a winch line

Ive done a lot of rope snapping, definately wouldnt want to be slapped by one but reckon chances of survival, body intact are pretty good? The only real concern is when you're 'hanging off' something and it lets go!:wtf:
  13. Captainoversteer

Use of bow shackles when setting a winch line

All sounds petty sensible to me Chris! Glad Im not the only one who spends time thinking about stuff like this:think: I'm currently using a tree strop with hook at one end and an eye on the other, whilst not ideal,it certainly is quicker and easier. Something like this-...

    New SS Zorst

Usually a 'lifetime guarantee' stipulates that the vehicle has to be brought back every year or so for a 'service' whatever that entails?? I assume if they use mild steel clamps/hardware that these are checked/changed and any repairs(cracking whatever) are carried out before the system falls off...

    Dontcha just love new ropes..

Thats very true, never really thought about it before but now you mention it,it does ruin blades fast. Also contributed to by the abrasive mud and crap in the rope? As you say, amazing stuff! and very surprising what abuse it wwill stand up too.Im just not feeling the love for the wire!
  17. Captainoversteer

    Dontcha just love new ropes..

Ive just retired my original 'winch it' plasma, fantastic stuff for the money but its gotten to the point that I spend more time splicing it than actually winching! I used to religiously wash/dry it after every day out but in the last couple of years this has fallen by the wayside.Certainly makes...

    No worries Dave,Good luck!
  23. Captainoversteer

    stupid idea?

Can't see why not,why not fit your spring compressors in the first place? Will save jacking twice? Just been thinking about it,pretty sure I disconnected the front ARB too, just undone it from the link arms. Makes plenty of room
  24. Captainoversteer

    stupid idea?

I swopped my four +2" shocks/springs in about an hour and a quarter. I didnt disconnect any brake pipes or use spring clamps. I did undo the rear anti roll bar brackets inside the rear arches, this is where the potential lies for snapping bolts off I suppose?. Other than that just jacked the...

Goodwinch solenoid issue or winch ?

Generally I have found with Warn's that the end cap for the motor has the two 'legs' inside it that the bolts go through. These 'legs' go up tight against the brush pack plate and hold it tight against the body of the motor to earth it.Ive often seen these legs burnt on the end so that theyre not...

    3.4 V6 lwb 90 value

That's great, thanks. Matey noticed my disappointment that it wasn't an 80 and has left it with me to look at and make an offer,so should come in considerably cheaper, rest of the truck looks very tidy,104k miles, clean cloth interior etc. It looks worth putting an engine back in,but just had a...

Last night was offered a cruiser 'like mine' on a P plate with a dead engine for around a grand, ideal I thought would be handy to have an 80 kicking around in the corner of the yard for bits. I also have a pair of old style BFG MTs in 265/75x16,fairly well used(8mm ish) first sensible offer takes them! Probably no use to anyone here, but I can mount any of them on a choice of LR rims if needed

Landrover lightweight, Land cruiser 4 litre turbo diesel & box

Quite reasonable money it made I thought?Assuming it wasn't a complete rot box. Would have liked that for my collection of toys, would of had to swop to coil springs, with disc braked axles though. Engine looked to be a pretty good fit ,I once, many years ago put a 4.0L N/A diesel (2H?) into an...

    What would you buy?

I was in a similar position not so long ago,and have had LR's in my life for the last 16/17 years, mostly pretty heavily modified Disco's that were used as daily hack/family lugger, tow barge, toolbox, breakdown van, challenge truck, laner, etc. This certainly takes its toll on them! Mostly due to the...

Can you recommend a winch ?

I have always has Superwinch's, and have always used them 'hard'. In fact I still have the first X9 I bought about 12 years ago 2nd hand! It still works although is a little noisy, has been used well above and beyond what it should of done. I could still rebuild now for less than a cheap Chinese...

    Gasless MIG Welding

Im with Chris, gasless mig's really are useless. May as well spend your money on a pallet full of superglue. Obviously, like everthing else, you gets what you pay for but you should be looking at at least a 130amp mig.

Haha, thanks lads! Not so sure which is worse, the workshop or the truck, I certainly wouldnt want to lick the floor of either. I removed the three bolts holding the centre down, loosened the two rear gearstick console screws, unplugged the seat heating switches and did it on the bench. After...
