Sorry, but just had to post this

Why you'd buy one that may still be gathering dust on the local MD is a good question, but old brochures are quite a thing in the classic market. I have a bought the brochures the fit my old cars just to go in the history file. You'll find boxes of them at Autojumbles...

    Washer Jets

If you remember, Land Rover were part of Ford Premier Auto Group for a long period, so that is when the windscreens became available for LRs - and I remember the winterized Wolfs being fitted as were all the others if you could find the wires! As Les says, trucks and buses get them (we have...

    Washer Jets

Those heated windscreens are only available on Fords (and Ford group cars) because they hold the rights and are only willing to sell them at a price which other were not willing to pay... They should be made to release them or at least have the decency to let them go cheap as a safety...

    Goodbye to the Harrier

The Germans have carrier nose wheels for their Useless fighters the Ty(Bu)foon, even though they don't deploy a carrier force! We could do that on the endless tranches of Useless fighters we've committed to  . Some of the GR9 Harriers were only re-engined last year! A Ground Attack...

    Radio

I recently fitted a JVC KD-R901 head unit with Halfwits wiring adaptor to stock wiring with Alpine speakers in the original holes. It lacks bass but they are only 100mm drivers. I have a set of bass kit to go in but not yet built into boxes  . The head units does CD (inc all CDR/CDRW)...

    It's Snowtime

Yesterday, I drove past a gritter truck in a ditch over here in Nor'n Ireland. A friend had told me it was there so I looked out for it, and in a ditch it was! On its side enough that I could have stood on the side and deep enough that I wouldn't have to climb up to stand on the side...

    Ram Mounts

I have a couple of Ram mounts (not by choice, so I've no idea if there are any better about) as they were supplied with GPS/Satnav equipment (TomTom Rider 2). They have performed ell so far. Where did you get yours? Mine came from http://www.adventure-spec.com/shop/index.php, they did very...

    Diesel cabin / engine heaters

Chris, Totally agree on the Bid/Bin thing, there is a lot a general dissatisfaction with ebay at the moment... I think it may have had it's era. The prices of these thing are a bit less than last year, but not for much longer, I suspect. I was asking the other way around about the engine...

Replacing the Starting Battery - Have I smoked it?

Sounds all a bit odd... are you certain you connected the correct polarity? I ask because unless you get specific left and right batteries, the pos and neg are the same way round and the cables are not( OEM on mine are a pair of handed batteries). Jumping across surely defeats the 24v relay as...

    Winch Install on an 80

Already replaced the oe solenoids for sealed one. I'll get stop type switch. The key with pull cable as used on rally cars will probably be the way ahead as I don't want to have the push off type on show all the time. You're all correct, it would be sensible and give piece of mind.

    Winch Install on an 80

I've wired my winch without an isolator in the circuit, but have the solenoid send/switch pos on the accessory circuit. Do I need and isolate/stop switch? If so where would I get a suitable 400amp continuous type switch (Clearly it doesn't need to switch that current, just flow it)

80 series rear bumper and step thing on the top of it!!!

Ecky, It's not so much welded on as the the centre section beneath the ally step plate is the rear cross-member (it's where some of the tow hitch mount bolt on). The two plastic bits are just plastic dressing over a couple of tin plate brackets. Gav has led the way if there is too much damage...

    Do you use your handbrake?

Used every time I stop, mine being a manual, and for hill starts. Best way to stop all this seize up stuff is to keep it well maintained and crud free, it's not too difficult to free off if you practise it prior to your trip. Don't believe the FSM about 7-8 clicks backing off when setting...

    BEBs and other questions

I'm with you two, 5w30 is too thin for a big old diesel like the LC 4.2 but it what Toyota is currently doing. I would also agree with doing the oil changing yourself to get to know the truck and I do all my servicing myself (mainly for cost reasons). I have started using Opie as seen on this...

    BEBs and other questions

I questioned that at the dealer and he said that 5W30 is what they are putting in everything at factory recommendation, in fact, he said were I to have the bottomless wallet required and get my 16 year old diesel serviced there, it would have that oil put in it by them. I don't think I agree...
