Sloppy steering - remanufactured Steering Box, LJ70 RHD??

Hi all, my 88 LJ70 steering is not nearly as tight as I'd like. The steering rod ends all seem tight, and the times I've had it up in the air all the play seems to be in the box. I've tightened the adjuster screw, but the nut is partially frozen and not getting a true sense of tightness - don't...

Can I legally mount a rear 10L jerry can (petrol) on my 70?

Thanks Alexy, I suspect there is some issue with the old instrument cluster. I'll pull it out soon and have a look. Will be nice to have a reliable gauge! Cheers, R

Can I legally mount a rear 10L jerry can (petrol) on my 70?

Thanks, that's what I figured with petrol. I heard exterior diesel was ok. My fuel gauge plays up in my LJ70, sometimes full is 2/3rd tank on the gauge, and I've driven it right to the bottom with no problems (5l petrol stored in rear). If I trusted my gauge more, I wouldn't bother with a jerry...

Can I legally mount a rear 10L jerry can (petrol) on my 70?

Hi all, Wanting to occasionally mount a 10l (or even just 5l) jerry can with petrol on the back of my 4.0l LJ70 as I work/travel in remote places here in Scotland frequently. Is this legal? I can't find any info online, other than 10l is the max for petrol in the boot of a car. No mention on...

    LJ73 1UZ build/repair in Dubai

Really like the 73s, yours looks really solid, nice! I would love if my LJ70 had a bit more space in the rear. The 1UZFE seems like the perfect motor for the 70s, plenty of power, torque is always there, compared to what I'm used to. £200 for a 1UZFE is dirt cheap in my opinion! Ebay normally in...

Diagnosing 1UZFE V8 overfueling in LJ70. Let the games begin...

Ah that's true. I've an LJ70, it's an original UK motor, 1988, but the previous owner basically restored it inside and out, minus a few bits, and had a shop install the 1UZFE. The shop never finished the install to a decent spec, and it ran really rich when I got it with a misfire at low revs...

Actually no, that's on my list. I've chased up the wire from the dist. but messed around a bit trying to connect it up to instrument cluster and gave up fairly quickly, had lots of other wiring at the time, mainly oil pressure to sort, so it go pushed to the side. The previous owner's mechanic...

Ha, no probs, I'm pretty busy at the moment, but if I get it all going I'll definitely post on it. It seems like the trick it to take the time to do it right initially, a lot of the problems on the Lex forum seemed to be from slapping it together excitedly, which is sort of my style normally ;)...

Opp, deleted my first bit - welcome to the forum - can't wait to see pics of the 73 with the V8. I love mine, still puts a smile on my face everytime. There was a new Audi yesterday that was all over me in city traffic, so I put my foot down in second on a steep hill and left him in the...

Picked up a load of 1/4" plate steel - what would you make?

Ah thanks will have a look, knew there was something I was probably missing. There's no way I can bend this stuff, it's like battleship thickness :) so will have to chop and weld. Some of the pieces have a right angle along the length, going to make the most of those.

Oh and the emission test results from yesterday which I thought were very interesting: 0.69% CO out of 3.50% max and 521ppm on HCs out of 1200ppm max, so for a non-cat motor that seems reasonable? Since it is pre-1992 it only had to pass the non catalyst test at idle, no fast idle test...

Yes quite a relief! Speaking of mods, I also just got off the phone with Adrian Flux insurance, they are the only people in the UK who would touch this one with the V8 conversion and the suspension and all the other mods, it's not cheap, though not outrageous either, and really good coverage...

Meant to add I hear that running dual exhaust the whole way kinda kills the beauty of the 1UZFE. Running a Y pipe about 1/3rd to 1/2 way back to a single exit is the way to get that magic sound! I can try and get photos of my setup, the stainless exhaust system is probably the nicest thing...
