Hard to start in the cold

Yes, got a new set and replaced them. Old ones seemed OK on the multimeter, but for the cost I figured why not just swap them out.

Hard to start in the cold

Just to wrap this one up, I did the glow plugs a few weeks back, today was the first properly cold morning I've tried it on. Started on the first turn of the engine.

    No heating when standing still

I dropped some water in the atf while changing my radiator the other day, it goes sort of milky. That looks like clean atf in the pics I think.

There is a water to oil cooler for the ATF in the bottom of the radiator. You lose a little ATF when changing the radiator, your mechanic should have checked the levels when commissioning the new one. I would think he would have spotted water contamination at the same time.

To wrap this up, I got the new oil fitting this week and installed it today. Everything tightened up, water filled. Atf filled. Gave it a run down the road to get some warmth and circulation. Heating is red hot. No leaks. I am a happy camper.

    Really?

That's a very punchy price for a collie. Corrosion underneath in mot from 2017. Failed mot in 2018 and subsequently with corrosion. Not with a barge pole at that price.

Yes, that's what I meant by fully. Still not filled anything yet though as I'm waiting on a new fitting for the atf line.

I fully flushed my matrix and block with a hose. Which probably means there's a ton of tap water in there now but I'll just have to cope with that. Matrix water was pretty manky but it ran clear after a good flush.

Investigate what though? I don't think I'm losing coolant currently, no overheating issues, and I can flow water through the heater matrix just fine. In other news, trying to get the new radiator in and the atf fitting is the wrong size and also not like the old one (so I can't just use that)...

I have flushed it out today after the rain stopped. Going to fit the new radiator and have big bottle of red antifreeze on go in.

Have you checked the level in the radiator by popping the cap off?

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Finally put the accessory meter back in. Works like a charm. No idea what was wrong with it. The compass bulb has blown though so need to source a replacement.

Ran some water through the firewall hoses, flowed just fine. I'm now wondering if it needed a top up as the water was a little below the top of the radiator. Heater pipes are clean inside. Found why there's no rear heating, the heater has been bypassed by a small loop of tube. I assume there...

Roughtrax is showing £142 for a new matrix, though they're out of stock. The labour to get in is a bigger concern tbh.

I haven't had a proper poke at the heater matrix yet as it got dark, that's for tomorrow.

Oh yes, that would make more sense since it's an iron block. In other news, the thermostat is fine so it's not that causing issues.

Started on this today. Radiator hoses have a coating of fine copper particles, I think this is normal but just to double check?

Help.My handbrake parking light is 'ON' even though the hand brake is on engage.(LC 100 series)

Your brake fluid is low. Top the fluid up and see if it comes back. If it does you have a leak. Don't drive it until you have topped up if you can avoid it, you don't want to suck air into the brake lines.

Best place for new springs, shocks and lower arms?

I'd say a snorkel is more useful for avoiding splashes than anything else, you shouldn't be near the intake in the first place unless you're very keen.

Knocking sound from the rear when car is not loaded

I had the threaded rod at the top of the shock snap clean off on one of mine. Easy fix, the other side was in poor condition as well so worth checking.

I'm away but I am hoping to find time around new year to sort my radiator and heating issues. I also have a pair of lower ball joints to fit.

The radiator thermostat? I can have a look at that while I have the radiator off, it heats up quickly though which I wouldn't expect if that were an issue.

I tried the rear heater but I didn't get any warmth out of that either. Maybe that's also blocked or just not hooked up. New matrix is about £160 on roughtrax, so not terribly expensive. Definitely going to try the hosepipe trick - that looks like a non trivial job there!

I need to change the radiator anyway, so I'll drain it down and see what I can see then I think.

Driving in the cold recently I noticed the cabin heater had stopped working. It eventually started working again after a while, though the output is not great. Engine temps seem normal on the gauge, coolant level is as expected. I had a poke around with a warm engine last weekend. The feed...

Part 2 of my fiddling. The "accessory meter". It's been dead since I got the car. Took it out and powered it up on the bench. It only goes and works! Guess I need to check my wiring harness now.

Glow plugs for me today. Got the intercooler off and checked for coking as they can be very bad. Clean as a whistle. That's one job less to do.

I have them, they aren't working at the moment sadly. Need to get them out of the car and see what's what.
