Land Cruiser Colorado GX Manual D4-D For Sale

The car market doesn't seem to make much sense sometimes, the point re Defender prices and Disco prices being a classic example of two vehicles with very similar underpinnings... one is now trendy and has a cult following, the other does not... and this is reflected in the prices...

Dash warning lights remaining on after new alternator fitted??

Have you checked the output from the alternator on idle? Per Dave2000's point, the new alternator might just be a bit weedy...?

Hiya See this one: https://www.landcruiserclub.net/community/threads/for-sale-3500-2001-toyota-landcruiser-colorado-3-0l-d4d-kdj95-vx-4x4.158753/ May give you some thoughts on price? LHD is always tricky in the UK - you'll get the odd person want it, if they're planning touring in Europe...

Good good. Do you need arch extensions? They look about level with the existing arches from those pics. Looking straight down from above, can you any visible tread?

    Old Guy, with old car

"it is an import model and they have no access to wiring diagrams" sounds like code for: "its an old truck (relatively speaking of course!) and we can't be arsed to try to work through it properly, as our fancy arsed electronic gubbins won't tell us exactly what's wrong". Or am I being...

    Should I change my wheels?

Shayne, most of the armoured stuff runs runflat wheels - either custom made or via inserts. Agree the tyres are likely standard Duelers, though I'd be interested to see the load rating on the carcass.
  10. D

    Should I change my wheels?

Yeah, looks like you've got runflats fitted - pretty common on armoured vehicles. If you swap out the wheels you'll need to check the load rating for the new wheels and tyres - they may not be rated for 4.5t.

    Buying an 80 series

Some good advice about what to look out for here, and related threads (see the pinned post at the top of this forum). So, what does a decent 80 look like? Part 1. - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] In terms of going rates, yes, you'll typically be north of £10k for something half decent, petrols...

    The flat-pack OX truck

100% agree Towpack - I've said it before - BEVs are a developmental dead-end, the only thing they achieve is short term localised emissions targets, at the cost of the wider global environment... and good for virtue signalling Millennials I guess.

    Amazon 100 VX wont start

Exactly what I was thinking - guessing it didn't want to move as it was sealed shut. Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure (yes, really) is a good solution to reseal it for now - less messy that mastic or similar.

    Enterprise Upgrade

Doh, sorry mate - didn't realise - fantastic country, I hope to get back there again soon. About a year after we were there in our Defender I found we had volcanic sand in all sorts of unexpected places (e.g. clutch master and slave) - but looks like you already know what you're doing ;-)
  18. D

    Enterprise Upgrade

Nice job Gary - very tidy. Are those peli boxes on the sides? QQ - have you driven Iceland before? If not, a word of warning that the volcanic sand gets everywhere, its very fine and acts like grinding paste - so I would recommend that any of the external electrical joints will need to be very...

    Amazon 100 VX wont start

Is it definitely still the factory alarm? My 80 had an aftermarket one fitted that was a massive PITA - I had it all stripped out, but it was a massive job as it was wired into pretty much everything, black wires everywhere - including the windows, sun roof, etc. Definitely worth doing, if...

    why auto

Really depends on the use TBH - in reality in the UK Toyota are not expecting new Cruisers to be used off road, and hence auto. There are pros and cons to off roading manual vs auto - I've ran several of both - e.g. for rock crawling, auto every time; for more general exploring, manual gives...

MOT history shows a few issues not mentioned in the blurb. Guess it could run to £20k maybe?

Take a look at this RTT…

That looks amazing - loving the idea that you could have this as a pop-top (e.g. on my Sprinter). Price guide would suggest it'll end up more than my van cost though LOL!!!

    Which Torque?

Ah, understood. TBH I've always had an aversion to spacers, but in this instance I presume your front and rear tracks are different? Is this common to this model or a result of modifications?
  27. D

    Which Torque?

TBH my vote would be to dump the spacers entirely, and buy wheels with the appropriate offset, but I guess as you've already bought both wheels and spacers, then that's not really too helpful LOL! :-)

    Is this normal?? Leaking sills?

Water in the sills is common - drains from the sun roof, then the drain holes get blocked and you get a sill full of water. Looks like your welder drilled a fresh drain hole, as from memory the standard one is on the sill pinch seam? Guessing he found a load of water when he repaired the...

80 series - starting issues - looking for suggestions

Soooo... quick update - left the truck for a week or so and the OS battery had dropped to 12.3V, NS was still holding 12.7V. Checked the date of the batteries and they were fitted around 8 years ago, so I guess they were about due for replacement. We bit the bullet and fitted a new pair of...

Useful stuff guys. Still looking into this, but I noticed that one of the batteries was fitted in 2014 (I think the other was 2016) so I guess they're about due replacement anyway! Local auto electrical place wants stupid money (£263) for a pair, so will see what I can source - a quick Google...

    One for two wheeled enthusiasts!......

Jeez - 30 years. I passed my test on a KE100 when the Blade first came out - a mate owned one, and let me take it for a spin literally a couple of days after I'd passed - that was an eye opener! I had a series of Japanese bikes over the following years - CBX750, GPX250, ZZR600, Harris Magnum...

Cheers guys. There used to be a really good back street garage battery guy local to me (Randalls Accumulator Company I think it was called) - proper old school bloke that would drop test batteries, try to revive them for you, etc, etc. Unfortunately most of the local suppliers now seem to be...

80 series - starting issues - looking for suggestions

Thanks guys. I haven't checked the batteries' voltage individually yet, but will do. Not sure how to test the capacity TBH - is this something I can self-test? I'll also try putting an earth from the batteries to the block, to verify if its an earthing problem. Any other...

80 series - starting issues - looking for suggestions

Hi guys, Usually the 80 starts quickly - i.e flick the key and she's running in a second or two. And up until recently we've been able to leave her a few weeks at a time and she's always flashed up. Anyway, last few months we've been using the Hilux as the DD and the 80 series for weekends...

    Thoughts on these 'rusty pics'

Pretty average for an unrestored 20 year old vehicle used on British roads - if you plan on keeping it long term then you'll really want to clean all the scale off the chassis properly to assess how bad it really is. I would expect the body will also need a fair bit of attention - looking at the...
