Who is doing what maintenance today?

The 120 has been losing coolant recently, couldn't spot a leak anywhere, but at 214K everything looks like it could be suspect. Various write ups suggest that the water pump should have gone by now. So dug into the piggy bank and treated it to some shiny new bits. There are numerous articles on...

    Airbag light is on.

The seat position sensor sits underneath the seat, and is located close to the seat rails, it sends back information on the seat position on its forward and backward movement. I think Higgy mentions his sensor had faulty wiring, which is the more likely than a broken sensor, and is what was...

    Radiator Replacement

I guess that the OEM is probably the way i will end up as the existing has done the high miles without totally failing, and at least I know that it will fit. i will try and take a few photos when i do the job just to keep a record for others. Need to order some rubber hoses first, there are a...

    Radiator Replacement

Hello Chaps I am about to change out my water pump, the mileage is at 210K so it must be about ready. I have ordered Toyota OEM, whilst I am at it I thought that I would change the radiator it appears ok, looks a bit tired and after 210K it must be due. Question is has anyone any experience of a...

    Airbag light is on.

You have to check each wire from plug to sensor with a multimeter, there was no visible damage on any of the plugs or devices on my seat, however two of the wires were not conducting, broken somewhere in the loom.

    Airbag light is on.

Clever idea, that at least gives you a much narrowed down area to look for the fault, it has to be in the drivers seat. If I was looking I would haul out the seat and then you have access to all the devices underneath. Simply check every wire with a multimeter, from plug to device. There is an...

    Airbag light is on.

The problem with the airbag issue I had was that the broken wires would sometimes make a connection and the light would stay off for a day or two and then would come on again. This i lived with until MOT time and as its a fail had to find the fix. The light will come on when you turn on the...

    Airbag light is on.

Can agree with Higgy, the position sensor wiring under my passenger seat was broken, bit of a bind taking out the seat, but its the only way to get at the wiring properly.

Can this under carriage be restored?

I would not let that amount of rust stop me buying the vehicle, as long as the rest of the thing are agreeable. the question would be are you intending to clean and rust proof it yourself or getting it done by a specialist. There is nothing that looks too far gone in those photographs

Hard cornering freaked me right out!

If you put the centre diff lock in and drive slowly in reverse on tarmac put the steering into full lock you will feel the resistance almost as if the steering is heavier, when you disengage the diff lock, and repeat, you will easily feel that it has disengaged.

    120/150

Hey Andy If you want a little more refinement why not try a petrol 120? I know the fuel price is an issue at the moment, which should mean that petrol 120's will be going at a good price, should be able to find a bargain. In the long run if you compare running a diesel against a petrol there is...

    Homemade blackout blinds!!

Hey Jacob, thanks for the offer, but I have all the components already , except the case which i have just ordered. You should bring the heater with to the meet we can all offer to help. I just enjoy that type of joint effort involves some first class banter.

    Homemade blackout blinds!!

Have you considered piping the air inlet to the interior of the truck, which will recirculate the air. The idea being to have warm air at the inlet and hopefully using less energy than heating the icy outside air.

    Front axle bearing

Hey Tony I have just replaced the front wheel bearings on my 120 after 199000 miles, the drivers side was rumbling and i was told its a wheel bearing by a local mechanic, so i changed out for new and then i could hear the passenger side so changed it also. I would identify it as a rumbling...

First I saw this on my driveway??? Then when i looked underneath I saw this. It looks as if the oil is coming from behind this protection plate, four twelve mm bolts later. I saw this. It looks as if the transfer box front output shaft oil seal has given up. ( after only 197000...
