    Really?

What do you think a build like that is worth?
  2. Theshootist

    Really?

Presumably it's because they have taken images from different stages of the build.
  3. Theshootist

    Really?

It's the best one I've seen

  5. Theshootist

    Really?

Mahker 4x4. Nothing to do with me but a pukka outfit if you want a £150k defender!
  6. Theshootist

    Really?

I've not seen that done before and don't know if I could fit it to the existing gearbox or get a BMW box to for the transfer case. Its a cheap engine though, in fact there's any number of amazing BMW and Audi engines secondhand but can't imagine wiring one up would be easy!
  7. Theshootist

    Really?

No it didn't, but suspension and a big brake kit would have to be done too. A fully sorted 80 with double the power from a lighter engine with better fuel economy would be an awesome thing!

    Replacement engine 4.5 1FZ

I'm on the lookout for a 1FZ to replace mine. One that's never been run on LPG and can go straight in my car. Thanks.
  9. Theshootist

    Really?

That was fully fitted and was an estimate rather than a quote. It's a big job and the first time they would have done it. Given the prices of the LS3 defenders they sell completed it lined up. I'd love to do an engine swap but these engines just aren't readily available here second hand. I guess...
  10. Theshootist

    Really?

I have been looking into a Chevrolet v8 swap for my 80 (the existing 4.5 sadly needs a rebuild or replacement and a rebuild is very expensive). I got an estimate from an outfit which specialises in putting LS3s in Defenders and the cost, for a crate LS3, gearbox and adaptor for the transfer case...
  11. Theshootist

    Really?

What would you strap on that frame on the bonnet? Seems more useful for touring in a hot climate.
  12. Theshootist

    Hi All

It might be that you need a number of posts before you can send messages. Not sure. I was just saying I would certainly be interested in your 1FZ and will be following your V8 swap of you write it up. I think the 80 would be fantastic with a more modern and powerful engine.
  13. Theshootist

    Hi All

Wow this is exciting. My 1FZ is currently out of the vehicle and in bits. I'm contemplating the cost of a rebuild, vs finding a replacement from a broken car or going the whole hog and swapping to a v8. Unfortunately crate engines are expensive in the UK.
  14. Theshootist

    Hi All

Good luck will you be doing a similar engine swap? I presume that's a 2UZ?
  15. Theshootist

    Interesting conversion.

I looked at an LS3 and gearbox swap with an outfit who specialises in playing such conversions to defenders. The cost was eye watering, but if I had the spare cash then its definitely route I would go. A proper Icon style build!

    Buying an 80 series

    It's a great engine.

    Buying an 80 series

I bought the cleanest 80 1fz I could find last December and have been working though various issues. As you say, I would get a good look at the underside, the boot around the rear glass, round the windscreen and the arches. The 1fz is a fantastic engine but awful on fuel. It will still feel...

    Interesting products

I see that it's listed for the 80 series 4.2 diesel. Would the 4.5 petrol one really be different?

Please can I ask if you can make a system for the 4.5 petrol? Thanks

    Manifold and exhaust system

I had a good visit with Hayward and Scott. The gold plated solution is a tubular manifold and exhaust system with a sports cat. I can have the manifold ceramic coated too for heat control. Is there a good solution for removing the EGR?

    Manifold and exhaust system

Well I checked with Toyota on the price of an OEM replacement system.. I needed to sit down afterwards!

    Manifold and exhaust system

Thanks Both, I've put an enquiry into Longlife exhausts. I'll also call H&S as I've previously had one if their systems on a Subaru forester. Edit to say H&S sound like they can do it. Just need to take the truck in.

    Manifold and exhaust system

It's a petrol. I'd really like to replace with stainless. My gun gum bandage repair is working at the moment but it's time to find a replacement.

    Manifold and exhaust system

I had to patch up a join in my exhaust down pipe that was leaking this weekend and it got me looking for a potential replacement system. I can see that free flowing manifolds and stainless exhaust systems are available in Australia still, but very little here. Has anyone got experience of...

Thanks. Fitted a new set of BFG ATs today. Really enjoying it so far.

    80 series petrol or diesel

No a different one. I'd done a full 360 and gone back to the idea of importing a 100 when this came up on ebay. The last owner had it 17 years. There's a few things to try and sort including a very slow drivers window and the heater, which doesn't get more than warm! Other than that it's great...

    80 series petrol or diesel

I've not run an LPG car before but that does reflect what I've read. The seller said the gentleman who part exchanged it loved it bit couldn't handle the full costs anymore! He had no idea if it had a flashlube system. I would certainly want to run a compression test.
  46. Theshootist

    80 series petrol or diesel

I don't mind the fabric at all. I'm betting its just the LSD at the rear though rather than the lockers. I've spoken to the seller who took it in part exchange. He doesn't know, but will send me a video tomorrow.

    80 series petrol or diesel

We are certainly going to be able to drive ICEs in fewer and fewer towns going forward. I'm not convinced that digging the world's supply of lithium and cobalt out of far flung places, shipping it back and forth across the world is much better than keeping an older car going. Also the modern...
