The welder has been away for a month so work stopped for a bit. Now getting into the home stretch.
Rear is now finished and being primed. Just the front to go…..
That is a good looking exhaust and a very reasonable price.
Can I ask, does it attach to the existing dump pipe on the turbo, or does it attach directly to the turbo thereby replacing the dump pipe?
Yep exactly that. I always use Amayama and simply order all new hardware for any job I’m doing for the first time. Occasionally a few extra where spares are good to have like for wheel flanges etc
I had the same with my previous 80. I now make it standard practice to always replace every nut, bolt, or stud I remove for the first time with new. I only want to have the battle once!
They can be an absolute git to get off. I use a long pry bar, or another spanner to brace the fan so it can’t turn. That usually allows me to get enough breaking force on the nuts. I always use a decent ring spanner so as to not risk rounding the nuts. If necessary, get an extension on the...
I did a bit of google ‘research’ into these and the published consensus across other vehicle forums was that quality is noticeably lower than OEM and they last 3-5 years on average. Nothing specific to the LC80 though, so Jon’s opinion of greater value.
My only concern is I don’t really want to...
That is interesting. It is entirely possible my understanding regarding the years they were and were not fitted is wrong! I had always understood that 92-94 had side mount, 95 on had the under chassis mount. I suspect there may also be some market and/or trim differences.
The under chassis mounts are generally considered to be far superior to the side mounted. They are much more resistant to deforming when stressed. Toyota moved away from side mounted after 1994.
I have the side mounted drop plates for a 3” lift and they regularly bend out of shape. I’ll be...
Genuine radiators can be ordered from any Toyota dealer in the U.K. They are still in production and available. I got a quote for one this week to replace mine. Just be sitting down when you get the price.
No, this isn’t true at all. There are not ‘many’ threads on this or any other forum about a ‘well known issue’ of ATF and coolant mixing because it isn't well known at all. Although it can happen it is actually very rare.
I am after a set of cheap wheels for the 80 just so I can mess about addressing vibrations. My current tyres are too noisy and I don’t want to swap tyres around.
The most important thing is that the offset is either the same as stock (ET0 - no offset) or are negative offset and stick out. I...
My understanding is the bars are the same and are interchangeable. You are right the chassis links are different. Also, the bracket and/or bush that attaches to the axle is larger but again interchangeable.
If you regularly articulate the rear the older pre 94 chassis links won’t be up to the...
You just want someone you can trust to troubleshoot it properly. There isn’t anyone I could recommend in the South. I have a good local mechanic who is also a friend. I trust him to work on my 80 but I’d probably want a diesel specialist for this.
I had white smoke and loss of power come on...
This company might do just the shocks Suspension Ironman For TOYOTA PRADO120-RZJ / VZJ LIFT 45mm 2 inches | eBay - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]
OFM do stock the Foam Cell Pro just not for the 120. May be worth asking if they could get them for you.
West Coast are who I got my shocks through...
The kit you linked above is just the standard Foam Cell, not the Pro. I have no experience of them.
Shocks and springs do not need to be matched. Your existing springs will be absolutely fine with any brand of shock. All that matters is the shock is the correct length for the amount of lift you...
It’s not your springs that will be giving your that jar/bang when you hit a square edge, it’s the shock compression damping. Switching to a shock with softer damping will make a big difference even with the same springs.
I can comment on OEM but OME are well known to have firm damping giving a ‘sporty’ but often harsh ride. Ironman are an example of a comparable ‘budget’ brand that have much softer damping. I swapped my OME nitro charger shocks for Ironman Foam Cell Pro and the ride was transformed - much...
